E-Commerce Battle: Amazon and eBay on Deck [View article]
All I know is amzn doesn't turn anything approaching 2 billion in net income. revenue is meaningless when your model still involves giving away lots of merchandise at a loss.

If the comment at the bottom are indicitive this may help ostk because it sounds like allot of amazon customers are ready to jump ship in the face of a 6% price hike.

Sam, This is the most reasoned argument I have seen you make and looks like your financial projections make sense. I don't know if I aggree with your conclusions but the analysis is sound and the target of 2.5% gross margin and 30% growth in the fourth may be tough to beat. I would not go so far as to it is impossible however. They just need to find another rabbit in the hat like they pulled out in Q1. I think OSTK just needs to break even to create a good deal of excitement though.

Why don't you hit any of the real numbers that came out in the earnings call. The claim that the year over year numbers are calculated on a different set of rules only accounts for 900k in rev or less then 1%. I might believe you on some of your points if your blog were not packed red herrings and irrelevant material.

Coverage of the NBA playoffs have more fact then this article. There are legitimate journalists out there that are negative on overstock but you can identify them because they offer praise in successful quarters like this one and well as negative releases in poor quarters. Write with logic instead of animus and you might actually persuade someone for a change.
Overstock Earnings: Has a Turnaround Really Occurred? [View article]
You spend the whole first half of the article talking about how evil and manipulative ostk is for comparing GAAP 08 to non GAAP 07. Then in your own article admit that comparing apples to apples non GAAP measures the growth was actually 2% higher. If that information was disclosed where is the intent defraud? Did mean to cheat us by downplaying their growth?
Second, sense when was easter a retail holiday? Take a look OSTK, AMZN, and Target.com. If you can see anything but a linear trend through easter in that line you might have an argument.
Finally, one extra day in the quarter. Assuming leap day, like easter, is not a mystical retail mecca it would an extra 1% to the length of the quarter.
If the best you can throw at overstock is a 1% quarter extension, a non retail-holiday, and the fact their comparison understated growth by 2%, I think you just sold me on an OSTK long position.
