Microsoft: Why A Failure In Mobile Could Be A Catalyst To Buy Shares [View article]
As an AAPL shareholder I want to thank the Microsoft BoD for having Ballmer as CEO for the last decade. His leadership and lack of vision is so bad, it gave Jobs ample opportunities to win various battles to set up Apple to win for the next decade.
Please, please let Ballmer stay as CEO for as long as it takes.

"Dell is going to focus on the Commercial market where it has major share and where Apple, Samsung, Asus etc have difficulty penetrating."
Sir, with all due respect, please read up about how iPads and iPhones are invading enterprise and businesses, starting with the CEOs and the saleforces, IT and and fuddy duddy middle managers be damned.
Windows 8 Makes Microsoft More Volatile [View article]
Ridiculous assertion.
Microsoft has always "come from behind" because of unfair business practices, and sabatoging 3rd party software on their OS. This has been well-documented.
Apple did for a time licence their OS to third party manufacturers to their detriment. Apple reversed that decision and has done exceedingly well.
As for Mac niche status, Mac shipments have increased 25% from last year while PC shipments have dropped 9%.
The public is becoming increasingly aware that the Wintel platform is offering less and less value for money paid.
With all due respect, Consumer Reports has become a anachronism and is looking for relevance by writing these types of articles in order to retain readership.

With all due respect, if you have read Job's biography, Apple's brainstorming techniques had them responding to scenarios 25 years into the future.
In addition, Apple has created their own Apple university in-house, where manager and executives learn about the history, decisions, and thought making processes behind the company's greatest successes and failures.
Windows 8 Makes Microsoft More Volatile [View article]
Windows 8 is going to screw over developers. You will not see a mass migration. Most of the major players that are already established will stick with the desktop interface that is already included. Why invest a significant amount of money and time into a new interface that has not proven to work in the real world, much less catch on with the masses?
What will probably happen is that a new crop of MS developers will create apps exclusively for the Metro interface. Consequently, Windows users will needing to jump back and forth from one UI to another in their daily tasks.. Not a good computing experience at all.
In this new world, MS will not be able to buy out their competition, nor do they have the muscle of IT workers on their side. Apple has effectively returned power and choice back to the end user.
The only way for MS to win is to not makes any mistakes and truly be better by coming up and executing better idea. This remains to be seen.
Users of the new iPad (AAPL) are finding a big drawback to the device's blazing fast 4G connection: They burn through their data limits in as little as a day. "All the advantages of the iPad are completely neutralized by the two gigabyte data limit," says one user. Either consumers will have to get used to paying more or wireless carriers will come under pressure to change their pricing models. [View news story]

Rocco et al.,
It is NOT a big deal but the increase makes sense from a technical point of view (faster CPU, faster GPU) as is well within Apple own guidelines. These stories are anecdotal at best and NOT a major issue, like a battery recall.
Nothing more that FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt)

Rocco, I understand your point of view but I strongly disagree.
To write something such as:
"If you have profits in AAPL, there's no question in my mind, you should take at least some of them off of the table at this point. Not all. Just some. That might mean only 25% to 50%. It all depends on your unique and actual financial situation. But, you can only assess that after you strip away all of the emotion that you have built up over the course of being an AAPL long."
based on Cook's and Oppenheimer's decision to offer a small dividend to shut up the clamouring voices, is irresponsible.
Have any of the economic fundamentals of this company changed? No.
Have they lost any market share in any of their product categories? No.
Have they lost their position as a market innovator or leader? No.
Have they suffered any problems in their operations, management or R&D and design? No.
Apart from Jobs' demise, have they made any changes to their executive team that has resulted in disastrous consequences? No.
To further the point, the investors who have been calling for a dividend are disappointed with the percentage amount. To not see that the decision was basically to placate is a huge error on your part.
Tim Cook was mentored by Steve Jobs for a couple of decades. He understands his predecessor's mentality, and obviously the success it has garnered. He knows he's the "operations" guy and not the "product" guy. You don't think that if Cook was just another "dumb MBA" Jobs wouldn't have smelled it during these last few years and given the job to Schiller?

Apple sold 3 MILLION iPads in 3 DAYS! The last time they introduced the iPad 2, it took them 28.8 days to hit the same number.
Is this antenna-gate 2.0? Reports are piling in that the new iPad (AAPL) runs significantly hotter than the iPad 2, a problem that occasionally leads to error messages and shutdowns. The power needs of the new iPad's retina display are a likely culprit. Apple has responded with a terse comment asserting the device "operates within our heat specifications." [View news story]
