  • The Dirty Secret About The 1929 Stock Market Crash [View article]
I took one look at the title and thought to myself, what does this kid know about this. That happened almost 85 years ago. I read it. It's a great article Tim. It put things in proper perspective. It would be nice to see T and GE trading at those levels again.

  • Why Batteries Are Too Valuable To Waste On Solar Power Integration And Electric Cars [View article]
Another great article Mr. Petersen. I checked on that NS-999 a while back. They are looking to save about 2.5 million gallons of diesel on this if I read correctly. And you were right, when waste becomes more expensive than storage.

  • Lithium-Ion Batteries Were A Bust, But Advanced Lead-Acid Batteries Are Booming [View article]
Hey, if I knew where to buy one of these things, I'd put one in my jeep. Maybe two. One for a back-up just in case I discharged the first one to 0% without any harm being done to it. Severe cold weather? No problem with that either. Thanks for the info.

An awful lot of chatter here. Didn't know anything about AXPW before I read this article, but the industrial applications have got to be off the charts. Nothing less than a super die-hard on steroids. I'm going to be watching this one.

  • Twinkies And Employment [View article]
I truly feel for you Mr. Angel Martin. I personally know people who have retired from working in those cities and are now forced to shop around for their own insurance. But when two former chiefs of police retire with 2 years or less on the job at six figure retirement income packages, you have to wonder who made these deals. One of those former chiefs is now the runner-up for the chief of police for the city of Omaha, Neb.. Unions weren't responsible for making those reckless deals.

  • A senior official says Cyprus has reached an agreement with the Troika to impose a 20% tax on accounts over €100K at the Bank of Cyprus and a 4% levy on similar accounts at other domestic banks. The same source told Reuters the country would not nationalize pension funds.  [View news story]
I can't believe he said that. Balance out? Some of these deposits of 100k+ are peoples life savings. And they had it in there because they thought it was safe. The number one rule about breaking rules is that it just gets easier to do the next time.

Hostess went into a death spiral back in January and it has nothing to do with machines or robots. Silverpoint and Monarch made a mistake picking up their debt thinking they had the Teamsters on board without realizing there was a satellite union to deal with. They all lost.

Blueline, you're right. They probably won't honor the cuts. But I am curious as to how long they can keep playing this game.

Essentially, that there is no free lunch. That's the second law of thermodynamics, in a nutshell. Obviously the author opened up a real can of worms here.

The price of everything and the value of nothing. I think that was Oscar Wilde who said that almost a century ago. And then, as now, lead-acid is still the key player. Price and convenience.

  • Average pump prices in California hit a record $4.614/gallon yesterday vs. $4.145 a week earlier following refinery and pipeline outages, with one downtown LA station even selling regular grade at $5.49/gallon. Prices might now have peaked, as Exxon's Torrance refinery resumed normal ops on Friday after experiencing power problems. [View news story]
Yep, special rules for special people. And it's not just gas. Just about everything here. Didn't you know that only happy cows come from California? That's what the milk industry here keeps telling us. And eggs etc. etc. etc.
