In my opinion, I believe it is mostly a matter of timing and public perception. I bought one of those smart phones last year. Can hardly wait for my contract to expire. When it does, I'm going to dump this ball and chain and reactivate my old flip phone and let all of the bandwidth bandits duke it out with each other.
There is just one thing about all of those flat screen TVs, VCRs, DVDs etc. etc., that is very different. These phones are heavily subsidized. That makes it more difficult for an accurate analysis.

It's brilliant. Corporate cannibalism is a taboo, unless it is done for a very strategic reason. Get people into the stores with the 8Gb model. Sales will not be limited solely to the lower margin item.
