Nintendo needs to generate more excitement by coming out with a new Wii model. Something with REAL HORSEPOWER. This would combine its interface with the best video - surpassing the XBox 360 and PS3.
This would bring excitement to real gamers - the ones who sustain a platform - rather than the casual players who lose interest.
I haven't played on my Wii for the past year. Unfortunately, the video is still like playing a toy rather than a more photorealistic console like the PS3.
With the PS3 also playing Blu-Ray Disks, with the cost going down, with Netflix on PS3, the Wii was being outstripped.
Why Apple Isn't Making iTunes Available for the Palm Pre [View article]
Palm is so stupid.
Why can't Palm do what Blackberry did? Blackberry created their own desktop software that accesses iTunes information without needing iTunes to be on. It works well. Blackberry doesn't need iTunes to sync with a Blackberry. Why doesn't lame Palm do the same? Are they so dumb? Duh.
iTunes will never support 3rd party hardware.
Palm is misusing USB IDs to fake being an iPod. This can be construed as a hack, a security risk.
All Apple has to do is let iTunes verify the firmware of any attached hardware to verify the identity of the hardware. It's easy. This would block out anything that Apple does not support.
Three Strikes from Apple and Palm May Be Out [View article]
Wrong.
Critics hated the Zune.
The Zune had poor software. It did not have the iTunes experience. The Zune market sucked big time. It was not better than the iPod by a long shot. It doesn't even compare. The iPod wins.
Apple: Creating the Device the Netbook Wants to Be [View article]
I want one or two. I already have 20 Macs.
The easiest way it won't cannibalize Laptop sales is to be an accessory to the digital hub just like the iPod is. The hub is the Laptop. As such, an iPod Tablet / iPhone Tablet running the touchscreen OS X would hardly cannibalize the Laptop market. Rather it would create its own market and bring additional revenue to Apple.
Obviously, if it acts like an iPhone and can be sold unlocked so that one can slip in one's own iPhone SIM and use it to browse and use the internet wirelessly, then it would be totally unlike the MacBooks.
It can be positioned as the ultimate handheld games machine, ultimate handheld movie device.
Imagine one installed in place of the car radio on your BMW!!!! It can be sold in millions of cars each year.
You can load books into it. It would kill Kindle as a hardware device.
It would open up new markets and niches and profits for Apple.
And it would be cheap to build, unlike a Laptop. Thus profit margins are much higher - an Apple tradition.
iPhone Tablet = Tablet-sized iPhone with 4x resolution full-color touch screen, OS X, runs every iPhone application and new high-resolutions ones, complements a Mac, can do anything a netbook can and more, has dual-cameras for video conferencing and photos, Kindle-killer, perfect eBook reader, Playstation-portable killer, fantastic for movies (can now do DVD-resolution movies), can use bluetooth keyboard or on-screen keyboard. Costs $500 with AT&T Subsidy, $900 without subsidy. Very high profit margins. Great for high school and college textbooks. Very elegant, best-in-class OS, Safari 4 with HTML-5 with CSS Animation.
If Apple Does Correct, It Will Do So Soon [View article]
Apple will NEVER do a stock buyback or pay a dividend. Doing so would seriously weaken the company.
Apple's cash hoard means its stock can NEVER become worthless, unlike other companies. Currently, the cash hoard means Apple's stock can never go below $30 a share.
Apple's cash hoard also allows it to fund projects or buy companies (like nVidia, ahem) to make it much more competitive despite a recession or depression.
When other tech companies, such as Microsoft, are facing losses, Apple is making tons of money.
9 Feature Comparisons: G1 vs. iPhone [View article]
Wrong.
The G1 is EXCLUSIVE to T-Mobile.
T-MOBILE also THROTTLES your download speed. When you get past 1 gigabyte of downloaded data, T-Mobile limits your download speed to 50 kbps. This is 1/3 of the speed of EDGE on AT&T. This is far worse than AT&T,
T-Mobile does not cover the area of AT&T either. It has a far smaller 3G network.
One thing good about Android:
PORN will be a huge hit on it. PORN apps are sure to pop up. PORN is the most profitable business on the internet. PORN takes up half of the world-wide internet's bandwidth. PORN will inevitably show up on Android.
A 3rd party accessory idea: Android condoms. You can place it over the Android to protect it from fetish activities.
iPhone 3G Speeds: More Cingular Mediocrity [View article]
The iPhone is by far the best cell phone / smart phone I have ever had. It deserves the monicker - Jesus Phone.
The iPhone can reach 2000+ kbps download speeds but only in European countries, such as Germany, where they have great 3G networks.
This is nearly the speed of WiFi on the iPhone - where I get 2900 - 5000 kbps download speeds.
The onus in the USA is on AT&T to improve its 3G network. Although various studies find an average download speed of 900 kbps, I am finding in the cities where I work, download speeds of 380-700 kbps.
Certainly, 3G is better than EDGE - which is 110-150 kbps. But as illustrated in other countries (e.g. 1500 kbps 3G in Canada), AT&T can do much better with 3G.
The problem is not the iPhone 3G. The problem is AT&T.
Woe be AT&T - as well as through lawsuits - if it is found to be throttling network speeds on 3G just like Orange did in France, until Orange was found out.
Choosing AT&T is not a mistake for Apple. Clearly, there was no other choice. The iPhone is a GSM phone. GSM is a worldwide standard. Verizon is NOT compatible with GSM. Verizon's phones cannot be used wordwide. You can't even text message all over the world with a Verizon phone. Text messages are limited to only select countries. T-Mobile has even worse 3G coverage than AT&T in the U.S. For better or worse, AT&T is the only logical choice in the U.S.A.
AT&T does have its work cut out for it, however, to satisfy its customers. The iPhone complainers should instead target AT&T so that it will pick up its rump and continue building the 3G network so that it can be comparable to Europe, much less Asia.
The App Store is a Revelation. It has vastly improved the usefulness of the iPhone. I have over 100 apps and counting since I plan to buy more. My friends have 100+ apps themselves. The quality of the apps far exceed those on Windows Mobile and Palm - my previous smartphones.
From only 500 on launch to now over 3000 apps within 2 months, and growing, the App Store is a fantastic market for developers who write apps for the iPhone. Think about it. The App store has distributed 30 millions apps in the first month. It distributed 70 millions apps in the second month. It is destined to become a Billion Dollar market sometime in 2009. This is a money tree waiting to happen for developers - with little marketing to be done as well.
For those developers that shun the iPhone market - GOOD RIDDANCE. This will mean more money for myself and other developers. It is a fantastic opportunity.
iPhone (Apple) vs. BlackBerry (RIM): Which Do Consumers Love Most? [View article]
The question is what do CONSUMERS love most. The Blackberry is a BUSINESS device. The iPhone is a CONSUMER device. Surveys of OWNERS indicate the iPhone far and away has a higher satisfaction rate than the Blackberry. Thus the answer to the question is: iPhone - far and away what consumers love most.
What do teenagers - the ultimate consumers - want most? iPhone. What teenager wants a Blackberry? It's not cool. A teenager would rather have a Sidekick than a Blackberry. Texting is far more important than email to the kids. The iPhone can do text very well thank you - as well as be the best iPod with Video.
This summer - with push email, with .Mac offering push email for a lower cost than what the Blackberry provides, with integration with Microsoft exchange, with 3G, with a whole new world of applications with over 200,000 developers chomping on the bits, with easy unlocking, with discount prices from the mobile provider (think $199 iPhones), the iPhone is set to overwhelm and rock the cell phone market. Let's rock! Yeah!
The problem for Apple is that analysts want the moon and the stars and have unrealistic fantasy expectations of what Apple should do. This is why despite blowing through the analysts estimates, despite doing exceedingly well, Apple's stock tanks.
When reality finally comes to the market, Apple's stock continues to slowly rise. This is why, in a way, I love it when Apple's stock tanks. It is a great buying opportunity. Some analysts even talk down Apple's stock so that they can tank the stock price, so they can then make their own investments in Apple - i.e. make insider investments and trades - realizing how great a stock Apple is.
So - despite how maddening it is to see Apple continually blowing through estimates and then having it's stock downgraded and fall afterwards, such a fall in stock price should give the investor joy as a buying opportunity, realized when in the interim, Apple's stock only rises.
When Apple's stock fell from $200 to $120 a share, for example, after the previous blowing through of estimates, I bought shares. The stock then went up recently to $160. This meant in the past 3 months I made roughly a 33% profit by selling. Wow! Thank you Apple! Now that it will gain tank, it is another buying opportunity.
By having Apple's stock tank badly then go back up again to higher ranges, and by doing this repeatedly because in reality, Apple is a great company with an undervalued stock, the smart investor and analyst will want the stock to tank after blowing through estimates. They can make money continually on Apple as a result since the stock will inevitably go back up again - with a realistic peak at $200/share. The better the tank, the more the money one can make on Apple.
