  • The 'Sell After Dividend Cut/Freeze' Rule, With Exceptions [View article]
Toeser makes a valid point. What stock is not down from the past several months to the past year?

  • GE Offers Dividend Opportunities During a Recession [View article]
"When that $0.31 per quarter dividend leads to a yield of over 10%, "

.31 X 4= $1.24. Last I looked, GE was $16+/-. 1.24/16=7.75%. A nice dividend, but NOT over 10%. Or should we hold off on our purchase until GE is 12.4 or lower?

  • Ford: Convertible Trust Not Preferred [View article]
"This is good for the company, since they will avoid bankruptcy,"

"then it won't matter if one waits to collect the dividends--bankruptcy, or even worse, nationalization, could wipe out any prospect of ever getting paid."

Okay, so Ford will avoid bankruptcy but don't own the preferreds as they may go bankrupt. Good thing you only have two hands.

  • Forget Financials, Look to Healthcare and Biotech Sectors [View article]
Isn't the "new" plan the same as the "old" plan that either didn't work or wasn't allowed to work? Wasn't the "old" plan to buy troubled (toxic) assets from the banks and hold them in Government care, gleaning what could be gleaned therefrom for the taxpayers, and leaving the Banks trouble free to go about their business? How is the "new" plan different from the "old plan?. Why was the "old" plan changed? Why should the "new" plan, just a re-hash of the"old" plan, work today when it didn't, or wasn't allowed to, work? How will troubled (toxic) assets be priced for removal from private hands?

    Thank you:

    Frank

  • Retail Sector Doomed: Weak Holiday Sales Will Destroy Under Armour [View article]
Has anyone checked out this guy's past record?

2/1/08 buy SWHC at or below 6 and hold for a year. 2/1/08 high/low 4.88/4.66. Current 4.57. High in August 7.77. But we are holding for a year. Not Great

    2/27/08 ABK high/low 12.47/11/76. Current 3.48

4/3/08 GTXI 14/15 current 18.83. Not bad, not great.

Anyone got a grain of salt?

  • ETF Update: Alternative Energy and the Power Grid [View article]
"Hitting the 20% mark could mean moving large amounts of power over long distances - from the sparsely populated plains to the more densely populated coastal areas. The problem is transmission lines and their connections, which are too small for the amount of power companies want to push through them.

Getting the system up to speed could cost $60 billion or more, but would require no new technology"

Perhaps the real investment here is in the companies who will benefit most from such an upgrade. Any suggestions?

    "Just speculating...."

A tip off not to take the article too seriously.

"Seeking Alpha is starting to look like a yahoo mesage board"

I thought it was a message board. There is little given upon which to judge the reliability of any of the posters.
