  • Tim Cook (AAPL) on the five-inch smartphone: "Our competitors have made some significant trade-offs in many of these areas in order to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these trade-offs exist." He adds that if IDC's right, the smartphone market declined 30% since December, so Apple's decline of 15% beat the market. [View news story]
Your dead right about WiFi. I always buy an unlocked non contract no Data Plan iPhone, but I also would like a Larger screen iPhone and also they should make both iPads in to phones also.

  • Is the "iWatch" now official? Apple (AAPL) has filed a request to trademark the term "iWatch" in Japan, categorizing it as a handheld computer or watch device. Sony has been selling its SmartWatch for a year, while Samsung is developing a rival product also. [View news story]
Apple Late to the Game again. They are not good at responding to competition. They should have introduced a Large iPhone at least 1 year ago, and it looks like it will be next year before the finally Get it, ie 2 years late.
They refused to admit that there are lots of their own customers who want a Larger Screen for Browsing and reading. No wonder the shares have dumped.

  • Early chatter on the Apple (AAPL) debt offering has 3-year paper priced around 35 basis points over comparable-maturity Treasurys and 10-years priced 90-95 bps above (Microsoft priced at +70). The 3-year Treasury currently yields 0.31%. Borrowing at 0.66%, Apple can buy back shares yielding nearly 3% (with free cash flow yield far higher than that). [View news story]
I would like to do that. AAPL likely to be a reliable Dividend payer into the distant future.

  • David Einhorn likes Apple's (AAPL) feisty share buyback : "We applaud Apple's decision to borrow money and return excess capital to shareholders, an idea that was off the table only months ago. This positive development represents a more shareholder friendly capital allocation policy and demonstrates the conviction of Apple's management and board in the Company's future." [View news story]

Cook does not seem to realize that a lot of people would like a larger screen than the Current iPhone 5.
Samsung have proved that to be the case.
For God sake if they can make a iPad mini with a retina screen, what's the problem? Make the new iPad Mini into a phone Also?
They need to provide competition for Samsung both with a larger iPhone and better / More advertising.
Also I just meet two ladies while I was on vacation, and neither had any idea how to use WiFi on their iPhones .
They continue to pay for data plans after their 2 year contracts had expired, when really they don't need it as they both had WiFi at home, but used 3-4G even at home. More education is necessary me thinks.

  • "We believe that Apple (AAPL) will launch the iPhone 5S at China Mobile (CHL) this July, as it launches the next iteration of the iPhone globally," writes Wedge Partners' Brian Blair, without elaborating on his sources. The remarks come a little less than 3 months after Apple and China Mobile signed a confidentiality agreement. Blair sees a 5S model supporting China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network likely entering production in May. (WSJ report[View news story]

The iPad (AAPL) is seen having 46% of the market, and Windows 8/RT (MSFT) just 4.7%. 2017 shipments (not an easy thing to predict) are seen totaling 350M. Apple need to produce an iPhone with larger screen for those who want it. Otherwise a lot of market share will be lost to others.
I can not understand why they did not see this coming months ago?

They should also make the iPad Mini to have a Phone facility.

  • More on Apple: 1) KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, an accurate source of iPhone 5 and iPad Mini scoops last year, claims the 5th-gen regular iPad will be "significantly lighter and slimmer" than the 4th-gen model. But he doesn't see it arriving until Q3, around the same time as a new iPad Mini and an iPhone 5S. An Apple TV refresh is forecast for Q1, and a MacBook Air refresh for Q2. 2) Apple has begun offering 2-year installment plans to Chinese iPhone/MacBook buyers. The 16GB iPhone 5 currently goes for $840 unsubsidized in China. [View news story]
