  • Microsoft slips after "disappointing" dividend hike [View news story]
I wish I could be disappointed this way more often.

  • Intel Corporation declares $0.225 dividend [View news story]
I don't think that 'Dividend Aristocrat' is written in to their business plan. There's something there about returning roughly 40% of profits to investors through dividends, though.

The fact is that Intel hit a nasty rough patch, profits were down, and the lack of growth in the dividend reflects this. If that takes it off your radar, that's cool, but I don't think we can expect them to go against their plan in order to become an aristocrat or a champion.

Nothing has changed for Corning, there's not any particular reason for the value to change much.

Have you looked at GTAT today though? Down over 12% as I write this. That's gotta hurt, I'm rather glad I didn't buy into it.

This is a nation of men wearing skirts, playing bagpipes and throwing huge logs for sport. Do they really need a proper reason?

    Wizjinx,

Chromebooks (and chromeboxes) are designed around using web applications. You don't really install any software on them directly.

It is possible to use the online Office 365 suite, but not standalone applications.

You're right. Obamacare isn't Bush's strategy. It's the strategy put forth by the Republican congress when they successfully fended off Hillarycare.

Gorilla glass is ion strengthened glass. To quote the Corning web site:

"Gorilla Glass is chemically strengthened through an ion-exchange process that creates a deep compression layer on the surface of the glass substrate."

So to my mind this announcement, so far at least, is quite compatible with just saying they're using GG for the phone. It would be inaccurate to call sapphire screens 'ion strengthened glass'.

  • Seadrill started at Sell by Canaccord, seeing dividend cut [View news story]
I take it you don't own Linn Energy or Tesla, then. Those might beat Seadrill for conflicting opinions.

    Buckoux,

Are you saying you HAVE got the answer but decline to share it? Or are you just too proud to admit you've got nothing, and would rather just complain about the current administration for internet points?

The real world is a harsh mistress, ain't it?

Please point me to a source for this information that Home Depot is storing PIN numbers. That would certainly be of great concern, but such a thing was not mentioned either in this blurb or the linked story.

I certainly hope you didn't see "... PIN numbers from debit cards..." and jump down to post this.

  • Confessions Of A Former Herbalife Distributor: Ousted For Success [View article]
    SonnyBeech,

I don't think there's any comparison to be drawn here. The question of pay for hours worked is pretty well settled, and anything from the state/federal minimum wage on up is completely legal. There seems to be some conflict over the morality of it being far too little money to raise a family, which wouldn't be an issue if minimum wage jobs hadn't become so widely held by older people with family responsibilities. That wasn't nearly so much the case a few decades ago.

The Herbalife situation, by contrast, is rather more murky. Whatever else it may be, it is certainly a Multi-Level Marketing scheme. I have not trusted those since I was a high school student, when my uncle got involved in one. When he tried to recruit me I figured out pretty fast that something was rotten in the state of Denmark.

I SAID: It's a nice gas station you've got here. It would be a shame if something were to happen to...

You'll have to speak up! I can't hear you over the cars waiting for me. Look I'm really busy, call me back later, OK?

I can't quite understand why I'd sign up for any kind of sales franchise under such terms in the first place.

"Here, sell this product, but you aren't allowed to use the tools that have proven successful for so many products over the decades in doing so".
