  • Outlook for MLPs Ahead of April Earnings [View article]
    La Marque,
True, you do not want to hold them in an IRA, but holding them in a taxable account is not an issue at all wrt the tax filings. in fact, all of the mlps I own have the ability to download the required info into turbotax automatically....quite simple actually.

On PAA, keep in mind they play the oil price spread game, so they will be more volatile than some others.

If you dont like KMP at $50 but do at $45, buy KMR at $45 -- same stock, different form and you avoid the tax hassle to boot (can even hold in an IRA if you want, though dont know why you would).

SXL is also a bit customer concentrated so there is some risk there.

I would also bear in mind the spread to Treasuries, which is a very useful tool for MLP investing.

Disclosure: I am long all 3 of these.

Good catch -- keep in mind they were focused on IR risk as that is what almost caused fannie to BK in the earlier crisis. Given they hold a national portfolio of home mortgages, it has always been assumed that any one regional credit crisis would be offset by stability in another region. No one anticipated the mkt expansion into alt-a etc...

  • What's the Story on Amgen Shorts? [View article]
although a decent increase and large in absolute number of shares, the days to cover is what 5 or so? Doesn't seem such a big issue in those terms.

  • Myriad Genetics: I Told You So [View article]
Ketan--NOW is the time to go long??? Nonsense, you could have bought the stock in the low '40's the week prior to announcement and owned the diagnostic business with a FREE option on Flurizan. The "call" on the P3 results was hardly brave as it was widely reported and expected to fail given prior results. Why on earth is now the time to buy it? What happened to "I will go long when it hits $25"...
