  • 'Longer Term, Everyone Thinks Apple Is Going Higher' [View article]
"When we start hearing things like this, it's probably time to lighten up on the position."

Is there any more intellectually ridiculous a statement that could be made by a supposedly professional investment organization? Yup - let's sum up our investment strategy in one simplistic rule!

    Amazing...

  • The Global Reach of the First Million 3G iPhones [View article]
    longapple:

Apple DID say "in 2008", not "by end of 2008". Google the conference call transcript one or two quarters ago. I got on Kincaid's case for sloppy reporting, but here he's right.

(In either case, it's gonna happen.)

Don't these journalists even read what they write!? "Of course, the two figures are hardly comparable" he says of the earlier 74-day 1 million mark to the more recent 3-day one because the earlier iPhone "was exclusive to the US for months".

Then, IN THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE he says "the United States accounts for 60% of all units sold during the three day period, with a total of 600,000".

So then, let's compare 1 mil in the US in 74 days against 0.6 mil in the US in THREE DAYS! A little bit of evidence for something, eh? now I'm not claiming this as a continued sale rate, but c'mon, the latter sentence sure undercuts the former, doesn't it!

And of course it "remains to be seen... if Apple can reach its goal of selling 10 million iPhones in 2008"! That's trivially true -- it's August! And that three-day accomplishment make sit very, very likely!

Oh, the pressure of those publishing deadlines...

  • Rogers Communications' iPhone Coup: Not All It's Cracked Up to Be? [View article]
Right. Nothing like some journalist who has never run a business thinking he has more business acumen than the businesses he writes about.

Yeah, I'm sure the board meeting went something like: "Hey guys, we got the iPhone now! Let's make sure to charge so much no one will buy it! That'll be a huge money-maker for us!"

C'mon! Stop the whining. Do you think they would deliberately chose the worst possible option for themselves? If it's expensive there, then it's expensive. Either they lower the price or offer more for that price. They're apparently doing well with their current pricing structure, much as you might hate to pay it.
