The price of oil is not ultimately ruled by investors. It's ruled by supply. While we may have plenty of oil in the ground, we don't have plenty of production. When the price goes down, so does exploration. Deep water drilling becomes too expensive as do oil sands projects. Natural gas wells are capped if nat gas prices aren't high enough. Expect oil to go well above its recent top.
As for gold--it flashed a "buy" on Friday and traders are buying. Silver is coming along for the ride.
