    • Two Troubling Signs for the U.S. Economy and Corporations [view article]
China is investing in China's infrastructure in the same way that the USA did in the Eisenhower years (the Interstate Highway System). Chinese steel companies are paying record breaking high prices for iron ore and want easy access to oil. India too is coming along. Yes the US and Europe are in the doldrums but there is Asia and we have to take advantage of it by providing goods it wants including clean and interesting tourist's attractions as well as top notch machinery. • The American Eclipse: Short-Term Focus Overshadowing Long-Term Calamity [view article]
What I am most horrified about today is the the USA Congress attitude toward business. A prime example is "Big Oil", which became big in order to save money and "buy" income production. Any industry that does well gets villified and punished regardless of the taxes they pay or jobs they create. What our leaders have to do is break our addiction to debt. Like the overleveraged Financial Industry we have to do a "great unwind " Aug 21 10:05 AM
    • Valero Energy: Still Too Much Uncertainty for a Clear Call [view article]
Well thought out article but it omitted Valero's exporting of product it doesn't sell in the US. Gradually the price of refined product will move up in proportion to crude price. Right now Valero is "eating" a lot of the cost of purchased crude. Aug 11 04:04 PM
    • We Can Lower Gas Prices Now If We Drill, Drill, Drill [view article]
The benefit of extracting oil from USA soil and off its shore is that most of the dollars paid for it would STAY HERE instead of Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Venezuela and Canada. Canada especially is benefiting immensely from this commodities boom and won't mind that much if we get a bigger part in the World Play. I agree, the price at the pump won't come down that much, if at all. But it will keep it shooting up to dizzying new heights. And I want those wages to go to union workers here in the USA. Those poor people in Saudi Arabia don't get much in the way of a fair wage. Jul 02 03:15 PM
    • We Can Lower Gas Prices Now If We Drill, Drill, Drill [view article]
Support offshore USA drilling! Think of all the great jobs it will create. Most of that money will stay in the USA. The need for more drilling rigs could create jobs for our manufacturing plants. More money can stay in the USA. Jul 02 09:10 AM
    • Bill Gross To 'President' Obama: Double The Deficit [view article]
Whoever gets to be US President has to get our factories humming again. We've become a nation of paper pushers. The mining industry in Canada has great need of all sorts of equipment that we could manufacture in the US. If we allow energy to be produced off our coast we will get to keep more money here instead of sending it elsewhere. Where are the unions? They should be screaming about this. There is a great opportunity to create many many high paying jobs that don't require going years and years of listening to boring professors and impoverishing oneself wth education loans. Wake up America! It could make a return to the Fifties! Jul 01 10:32 AM
    • Obama Clueless on Oil Economics [view article]
The reason Big Oil Companies profits are SOOOO BIG is because of all the consolidation that took place in the past turning many smaller companies into fewer larger companies. The consolidation took place as a cost saving strategy. And for this they and stockholders should be punished? Jun 18 09:46 AM
    • Is Vale Searching for a New Acquisition? [view article]
As a long time long, I think a Freeport McMoran acquisition would make more sense than Anglo American. This way large assets could be focused in the Americas. Of course there is Alcoa but Aluminum takes sooo much energy to produce it's scary. I'd prefer that Vale have more copper assets. Jun 17 12:57 PM
    • Up Coldwater Creek Without a Paddle [view article]
Even though I still have money to spend on Coldwater Creek offerings, I won't. My closet is packed with Coldwater Creek purchases of years gone by. I am shopped out. Also I notice that their prices are higher for "staple" garments such as plain bouses, tees, etc. then other merchandisers. I've never shorted a stock but I'm tempted in this situation. It almost seems a no-brainer. May 28 10:13 AM
    • Vale Results Leave Much To Be Desired - and Explained [view article]
Mistake in article about majors "eschewed big time nickel plays or any nickel plays" BHPBilliton is developing Ravensthorpe which also suffers from cost overruns. BHPBilliton acquired smaller nickel plays in Australia.
Also with Inco, Vale also got Voisey's Bay which will be producing nickel for the market soon.
