  • J.C. Penney closing 33 stores, cutting 2K jobs; shares +0.9% AH [View news story]
The employees who are going BACK to commission sales, i.e. 4% of almost nothing will be better off with an unemployment check than what JCP has offered them. Has this company no decency left? Many of these employees have been with this company many, many years only to be told they're going back to minimum wage and this phoney 4% figure....a joke.

  • J.C. Penney: 'Desperation' Is A Stinky Cologne [View article]
I just happen to know some of these employees,,,,imagine that.
Beginning Feb 1st no one gets more than 20 hrs per week, $7.50 per hour and 4% commission.

Only 4 people in one location to cover all shifts. That's four. This department has about $300,000 in sales last year. Yippee.

That will make them all eligible for food stamps and some will probably be homeless.

You think they're going to try to sell anything for this company NOW? Sure they are.

    Bad idea.

  • J.C. Penney brings back sales commissions [View news story]
Exactly. It is an awful idea and an attempt to cut salaries and benefits more than drive up sales. In addition, all full time employees I know personally can work no more than 20 hrs a week after Feb 1st. Some have been with this company for over 20 years. Good bye insurance and any benefits for a full time person. Next month, with sales what they are, these people will be on food stamps and homeless.

  • J.C. Penney hits 12-year lows [View news story]
You are so correct. I've been with this company forever....this week I applied elsewhere. I've had enough. Send us one more ignorant and condescending LOD and I swear......they could not manage themselves out of a paper bag let alone an entire department with real humans in it.

As for corporate....they are so far out of touch this company is doomed. Nothing...absolutely nothing true goes up the ladder to them so they sit around making decisions based solely and wrongfully on numbers. Numbers are only part of why there are no sales......THERE IS NO STAFFING SO THERE ARE NO SALES.

    Adios JCP.

  • Bloomberg: J.C. Penney looking to raise more cash [View news story]
As a drinker of protein shakes I needed a new blender...I wanted the Magic Bullet. My JCP Home Store had it for $80. Most of the other retail places had it for around $50. I ordered it from Amazon for $43. No comparison. How can this place stay in business?

  • Did Ron Johnson Wreck J.C. Penney? [View article]
Ditto on the Libby my friend. I've worked with this company for 11 years.....they should have sent that device WITH Mr. Johnson. Let me share just one experience with just one LOD.

Him LOD: "I need you to go out into the department today and ring all the customers up with the Libby. Don't be in the cash wrap, don't use the cash register, we are not supposed to see anyone in this cash wrap area at all. Soon they will be pulling these counters and cash registers out of every store..bla...bla...bla"
Me: "Okay, where do I get bags to put customer's merchandise in?"
Him LOD: "Here...in the cash wrap. You walk from the Special Sizes department TO here, get a plastic bag and go back to the Special Sizes department and bag the merchandise THERE."
Me: "Okay...and if they have a cart full of things---can I bring them HERE to the counter to ring them up?"
Him LOD: "Absolutely not.....you can put the bags in the floor, open them up and fill them ON THE FLOOR....you don't need a counter to fill those bags just put 'em in the floor and fill them as you ring the merchandise from those carts."

Not only is it totally irrational to use these Libby products that (by the way half the time don't even work you customer stands waiting and waiting for the Libby to work) it is poor customer service. It is very difficult to carry on a conversation, ask how one's day is, etc while struggling to fill bags of items on the floor....no counter. The customer feels sorry for us and ends up holding their own bags so we can put items IN the bags.....keep in mind the cash registers and counters are within sight---the customer can SEE 30 feet away is a counter we could be sacking her merchandise on.

Elderly Lady customer as we fill bags on the floor: "Oh honey, there's a counter over there....let me just take all this over there it will be so much easier than what we're doing....."
Me: "Well, I think we've almost got it here......... it's a new thing JC Penney's is doing and we have to go out into the department to check out your merchandise, right on the floor not on the counters. ....bla....bla.....bla".

When you work for this company there is so much unnecessary stress and so much (like this Libby idea) is just ignorant.

  • Are the stars finally aligning for J.C. Penney (JCP)? Emboldened with a decent result out of its legal squabble with Macy's and a report that it will show a year-over-year increase in sales for April, the retailer also has heavyweights George Soros and Bill Ackman entrenched as backers. What to watch: Though the sales numbers will improve as they run up against exceedingly soft comps, what CEO Mike Ullman decides to do with the company's real estate portfolio could be the key to solving the JCP riddle. JCP +7.2% premarket. [View news story]

  • Three former Apple executives who were hired by ousted J.C. Penney (JCP) CEO Ron Johnson have reportedly left the department store company. The departures are COO Mike Kramer, who received a compensation package of $33.4M when he joined JCP, Chief Talent Officer Daniel Walker, who got $20.2M, and Chief Creative Officer Mike Fisher. [View news story]
solnascente - exactly. The remaining employees are like PTSD survivors of some traumatic event. We have watched the leader of this company make every mistake humanly possible.

In our store we went through a Black Friday and an entire Christmas season with no inventory. Nothing. Weeks went by without shipments and every single customer asked, "....are you closing...."? Our entire days were made up explaining one lie after another as to why we had bare shelves and our store was empty. I thank God it's over....we are a mere skeleton of what we were. Like you said, many days it is one person per dept. That's it. Forget service, forget the phone calls, forget anything but what is right in front of you....there is no one else.

Personally, I think it's over for us. The 1% strikes again -- all it takes to really ruin a company is to let a bunch of smart a$$ millionaires take over. Another great American company lost, not to a war or a foreign enemy.....we cannot blame China for this one......the smart Americans killed it. Sad.

  • J.C. Penney (JCP) now up 6.8% AH as CNBC reports Ron Johnson is out as CEO[View news story]
Where you getting $60 million? He blew through about a billion and chased away 80% of our customer base.

He's the most hated man in America right now.
