  • Humana (HUM +0.8%) says it's fired its lobbying firm and launched an internal probe into the circumstances surrounding the leak of a significant change in Medicare Advantage rates earlier this month. The probe will focus on determining whether the company's interests were harmed by the ties between an outside lobbyist employed by HUM and an investment firm that received a 'heads-up' and sent out early word of the policy shift to its clients. That alert set off a surge in shares of HUM and other insurers just prior to the session's close.  [View news story]
They fired them only because the press got wind of the intentional leak-get a little daylight in there and the whole stinkin' mess of corruption might get vaporised.

  • Vietnam is downgraded to B2 from B1 by Moody's, which also cuts the ratings of 8 banks as the country deals with the downside of a credit bubble. Arrests of bankers, businessmen, and state company executives are coming in bunches, with the latest being that of Tran Xuan Gia, a former investment minister. VNM +11.2% YTD, but -23% over the past 4 months.  [View news story]
They are following our example with systemic criminality by bureaucrats and organized money, one point of difference is that they are jailing the criminals rather than bonusing them with taxpayer funds....

Who cares about punctuation/spelling? I've worked with crews who couldn't put together a complete sentence, yet were able to build the most complex structures after a brief glance through an architects renderings. Here we have men and women commenting who have been immersed in tech-not english language skills-bringing insights few of us are capable of offering. I'll keep reading for this excellent content and ignore petty comments about language skills.

"More than enough is a good place to start" seems to be how Buffett describes his few peers and especially their children when discussing THEIR welfare state with them at the CC. I'll side with him in saying that w/o active redistribution you have a rapid accumulation of wealth and power with little for others to aspire to aside from food and shelter.

So putting in place the controls which kept a lid on excessive risk since the great depression is somehow part of an "extreme agenda". Maybe we needed another full-on depression in order to appreciate what a truly extreme agenda can do to an economy.
