The thing to remember about newspapers, is that, obviously, they are NOT connected to the Internet. It's still nice to have a digest of the news & entertainment, in your lap, while you're not connected to a "device". Lots of people might still value that, imho.

Aside from the fact that youngsters don't want to read the "paper", the newspapers have done themselves a disservice by decimating the quality content that kept us "older folks" reading the paper: a lifelong habit. They also made a big mistake by putting their content online for free. Most of the news online seems to come from "papers".

No matter what you think of Sam Zell, he's not to blame for the debt that Tribune took on. They would have faltered anyway, what with their horrible management destroying the company. The lawsuit is an unneeded distraction. They are doing everything they can to save what's left of the Tribune properties and know full well what's at stake.

People are wondering why IT jobs go wanting? There's zero job stability with all of the outsourcing "strategies". Why would anyone want to go into the IT field?

I agree that while, especially at a Tribune property where I work, management is inept, what kind of world is it where you're bombarded with 1000's of news tidbits per day and nobody is there to put it all together or offer any professional, experienced, perspective? In my idealistic view, newspapers should never have been public companies. They serve a public service. Unfortunately, the mentality of management is "old-world" thinking.
