  • Time To Buy Mosiac Before A Sharp Move Higher [View article]
How about Israel Chemical: ICL.TA / ISCHY. Barron's European Trader ran a piece on this company in the March 12th issue. POT owns 14%. It provides a 7% yield. Dividends are paid quarterly and are rising. The next ex-date is the end of April. With the Israeli stock at 4000 shekels, CSFB has a target price of 5940.

  • My Superyield Retirement Strategy [View article]
I am 65 years old. I have managed to live off of my portfolio for the past twenty years incorporating growth and income into my strategies. I am now leaning towards a high quality/income portfolio as I both want to cut down the all-consuming time and effort I put in and dampen the volatility. I applaud your effort to take the bull by the horns (no pun intended) and plan for your future. However, as they say, "The best laid plans of mice and men...." I recently purchased NMM when they not only didn't cut the dividend but actually raised it last quarter. Well, my average cost on that one is $16.54. Was the last two days action just pure panic towards anything cyclical or a rational judgment that dividends will be cut in the future? At his point it smells like panic to me but time will tell. As to some other elements of your portfolio I would personally stay away from leveraged ETF's like MLPL. Despite the paperwork involved (K-1's) I prefer to buy the MLP directly in a taxable account in order to reap the valuable tax deferral. The ETF's do provide the "benefit" of converting the income stream into regular dividend income but I do not see this as a "benefit" but, rather, a marketing tool. If the MLP ETF concept is sold (see all the ads in Barron's) these ETF's will have to buy the underlying MLP's. Thus, demand will result in price appreciation. I currently hold CPNO, EEP, ENP (soon to be acquired by VNR), QRE and TLP. One caveat is that tax laws can be changed like Canada did with Trusts a while back. It seems unlikely as the MLP's are mainly focused on needed infrastructure and are not "boondoggles" by any stretch of the imagination. But, with politicians, who knows? My other "pure income" vehicles are: CMRE,CPLP,CWZ,EOD,FSC ( a Business Development Company which is another investment category. There are innumerable options within this class), NGPC,NMM,PDLI,,PYS and SSW.PR.C. Best wishes and good luck with your plans.
