Axion Power: Common Sense Solution for Alt. Energy Storage [View article]
Thanks for an interesting and well balanced article.
How environmentally friendly is Axion's technology? I understand the batteries (like most lead-acid) can be recycled, but my concern is that lead is so pollutant, that even a small % that is not properly disposed or recycled can do a lot of harm.
I have been an energy conversion devices investor for a long time (specially for the solar and memory divisions). What is your opinion on NiMH and Cobasys?

He has had a long position for years!!! This is completely wrong:
"Speaking on Warren Buffett, Najarian said that Buffett mentioned liking two financial stocks, namely Wells Fargo and American Express. He said that he doesn't have a long position in American Express, but he would."
K-Tron: Boring Niche Company Chugs to New Highs [View article]
I almost bought some around $138, but decided to instead buy a company with a similar profile, but a better valuation: Ingersoll Rand (IR).
In any case, the performance since I bought has been almost indentical for the two. By the way, very nice article, and I fully agree with most of your points. The fact that there arent any more comments is also a positive sign that most people are only looking at Apple, et al.

very interesting article...the fact that there were no comments is another prove that not many people are paying attention to this company...I will do some research and DD, but it certainly looks attractive considering the pace at which they have been growing...thanks!

Good article...I just would like to point out that not because you throw money at something, the problem will be solved...
If I remember correctly, Ford spent north of one billion dollars researching battery technology based in a Sulfur chemistry, and they might as well have flushed the money down the toilet...
The White Elephant That Could Destroy Your Portfolio, Part I [View article]
wow...you really know how to do DD...
Buffett DID NOT loose 1 Billion in derivatives last quarter (it was just accounting)...because those contracts cannot be called early...and they are LONG TERM contracts...specifical... PUT OPTIONS he sold on indexes with terms of 15-20 years...
You really think the SP500, DAX, etc. will be lower in 15-20 years? Those contracts are as close as you can get to receiving free money in the market.
However, I think the point fxtrader makes is valid, costs will escalate very fast for traditional energy companies. Munger seems to believe even more in peak oil. In the ASM he said solar and wind are the only viable solutions. And BRK utilities are investing a lot of money in wind turbines, Buffett and Munger even had to ask GE to please sell to them, since demand is outstripping supply for wind turbines currently.
On the Wrigley deal, they got a discount from the purchase price, and is a company Buffett has admired for a very long time. And even with oil at $300, people will probably continue to buy candies and chewing gum.
