Writing calls on stocks that pay dividends is a loser. Sweep programs in the broker's shop will call your stock away every time to get he dividend if the stock is a winner. The double commissions kill and you lose the expected dividend. You keep the losers and break even on the winners.

  • Bank of America's Recent Stock Action [View article]
Nationalize "the banks"? What banks? All of them including the well run local banks all over the US where the bank managers make a point of knowing their customers? And if you leave these efficient banks out of the nationalization craziness how in the Hell can the dinosours operated by government employees with their sterling work ethic even begin to compete ? AIG is slowly dying under government management while PRU an MET are picking up the pieces. The same thing will happen in the banking business.

Save the depositors. Let the banks go. The depositors will place their money with the managers of banks that survive because they are more well run.

  • Bank of America Potentially the Next Citibank? [View article]
I am also a buyer after such waterfall declines. The fourth quarter loss in the Merrill division was ten times the reported loss for the quarter. This tells me that ex Merrill B of A is doing very well. And why not. I borrowed $1,000 on a B of A VISA card at zero interest until October with $30 paid up front. Then the interest rate goes to 24.99%. But if I fail to pay minimum payments at any time the interest rate advances to that level immediately. Further if I buy merchandise, the minimum payment I make is applied to the cash advance and the merchandise charges carry a 24.99% interest rate. Talk about minting money from issuing a credit card!

  • $8.5 Trillion Spent, But No Relief in Sight [View article]
BAC is now down to eight and change. Merrill is a very big goat for this snake to ingest without having serious digestive problems. So its back to the TARP and a loss guarantee ala Citibank. That hat trick kited the price of C's stock. But the complications for BAC are whether Congress will vote the release of TARP funds and the delay in the installation of the new Secretary of Treasury. If BAC gets to four bucks Congress will have to act. Then watch how fast four buck buyers will double their money.

National chain store sales fell 1.3% from a year ago. Where is the recession/depression? Or is this number just as bogus as the data put out by the real estate trade association on home sales and price changes?
