  • The Definitive Guide to Natural Gas ETFs: Natural Gas ETF Investing 101 [View article]
    I see that the fundamentals of supply and demand don't work in today's futures market, and when an ETF for a commodity (which is supposed to be a "simple" way for investors to get a piece of the action) gets this complex it is probably best to avoid it.

    Thanks for explaining how this ETF works, even though I can understand it I just can't handle the current situation - when October 9 US nat gas storage is at 3,716 bcf, and total storage is something like 3,899 bcf, (from the eia.doe.gov site), and NOAA just came out with its weather models showing a "less than freezin' our tails off" prediction for most of the US this winter, well, I'll sit on the sidelines until the futures market comes to its senses. Nat gas following overpriced and abundant oil, its all just a bit much.

    Fortunately for the oil futures market the Nigerian rebels (MEND) say the truce is over at midnight, and they're going to start attacking oil facilities again. And what happens??? Whatyya bet refineries go up! Makes no sense at all, regardless of the crack spread.

    I see dangerous trading waters in the near term, fine for traders with fast reflexes I suppose,

    User 283977 - you should look over Onshore Oil & Gas Order #1 for US gas from federal leases,

    www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/p...

    Also consider its not very likely states will encourage onerous requirements for hydraulic fracturing anytime soon - they don't want to lose any revenue from state leases considering the financial hardship most states are going through these days - they nee every dime they can get.

    Plenty of volatile hydrocarbone being released every day from many industries in the US - coal, oil, nat gas, refining and industrial chemical production - not to mention the typical automobile - the EPA will not be allowed to regulate everything, andthe thresholds right now are pretty incredible, especially for benzene;

    Natural gas will still be the better choice for transportation in the short run, especially for fleet vehicles;

    www.cngvp.org/News/new...

    we'll drill for more, and LNG will be a largr play during cycles of lower domestic production and higher usage, even if it gets expensive.

    I agree with all the posters about the boom & bust cycles - we'll see lots more.

  • A Compelling Energy Ratio [View article]
    MDC has some excellent insights on just what might happen in a bearish energy market,

    some of us investors just buy positions for the future, and options are downright dangerous,

    I'll just sit back and wait for the next upturn , because the downturn is likely to be ugly. Even though oil prices are still high, and coming down they will mark the beginning of incredible bargains for developing long positions as nat gas stocks take a nosedive again.

    Its a market alright - and the short term mentality of so many traders in options shows how insane it gets in highly volatile trading markets. I would hope that the news-meisters would recognize that many are truly investors in energy over the long term, and that it isn't the high price of commodities that makes us all look bad - its the promotion of short term trading strategies for a quick buck that we all have to live with.

    whipsawn again,

    so much for patience.

  • Study: U.S. Has 118 Year Supply of Natural Gas [View article]
    I like the idea of using nat gas as a fuel for transportation, and I find it incredible that even the head of Sempra on Mad Money tonight wasn't sure how it would be distributed as a transportation fuel. (I forgot his name) - but they are a midstream distributor. They send it off to end users by getting it to the utility companies.

    I use nat gas every day, and as a heating fuel in the winter. If only I had a compressor in my garage I could top off my tank when I needed to, and then drive to a nat gas station when I needed alot for a longer trip than going to work.

    There's plenty of basic infrastructure that could be beefed up in 10 years, and I looked into it 12 years ago to see what it would take to get a Ford E-150 van converted. The saddle tanks were overpriced at $600, but the whole conversioo was pretty easy, and most I could have done myself (carburated vehicle). That's about when BP opened their first CNG filling station in Farmington, NM mostly for fleet use(may have been (BP-Amoco at the time)

    I do love the algae idea in the long term, I think of coal fired power plants with adjacent carbon sequestratioon facilities growing mass quantities of algae. Oil getting squeezed for bio-diesel, and the cellulose converted to ethanol (or liquor)

    And I have 220 volt power at my house too - for a daily use commuter vehicle I could charge at home, it would be great except for the fact that GM will want to charge me $20K for one in 3 years.

    I should mention I'm an investor in Canroys, because I work for the government getting involved in too many energy issues, so I have a conflict of interest in most US nat gas E&P/oil companies, and pipeline companies, and soon it will be solar and wind and the larger scale project's footprints on the land are pretty hideous. I am consideriing solar on my rooftop, , but that's another utility company fiasco, even with tax breaks it is a large investement and break even in the long run.

    Right now my carbon footprint is awesome - and that's fun until gas gets over $5, I only have 3 gas guzzlers and an electric or nat gas 2 seater would help alot.

    Does anyone know if T. Boone Pickens actually said "If you don't rush the monkey, you'll get a better dance" ?

    have a good one,

  • Canadian Superior Energy: On the Brink of Hitting the Jackpot? [View article]
    SNG also has onshore assets in western Canada which folks often overlook, T&T is the big play and their success so far has largely been ignored in the market. We are all wairting for the bounty results, and most expect something very impressive,

    This stock has great potential, even considerng the time it will take to get these wells online. Their partnership with BG Group is a very important component of their future success, and we all hope the existing gathering system will be able to accomodate the volume these 2 wells are likely to bring.
