why is it always entirely wall street's fault?

i may be completely off the mark here, but if main street hadn't leveraged itself so much- would a large percentage of the "bad debt" still be bad?

aren't we paying dearly for the enormous mistakes main street helped create?

    • Robin Hood in Reverse: In Defense of the U.S. Taxpayer [view article]
everyone's always talking about, "the expense of taxpayers".
i realize what i'm about to say sounds a little socialist, however, ...
...there are many to blame for the current problems- and they are all taxpayers; irresponsible borrowers, irresponsible lenders, companies and boards making poor decisions, politicians making horrible decisions.
at least this plan spreads the burden around; although i imagine some defaulting on their loans may not even pay taxes- but nothing's perfect.

i am just tired of hearing defense of the "taxpayers" and attacks on wall st. it is taxpayers, though not all of us, that are at fault.

thank you for illustrating the problem with our country's leaders: with so many domestic and global issues and concerns, somehow athletes using steroids is viewed as a high priority.

Agree JEC is a great company. I think some lever it to oil too much, because O&G infrastructure is something like 25-30% of rev; but oil could drop $30-40 and these projects would still be economical for the O&G companies. Aug 15 04:54 PM

yeah that chart is def not pretty.

if you take 15% or so off S&P earnings estimates and slap on a 14 or 15 p/e you'll get a price of around $1100-$1150..which still could be to high.

as far as the charts: didn't really use them to be predictive, more just to illustrate the out-performance of intl vs us, and the similar to under-performance of intl markets this year, given the turmoil in financial system.

wasn't trying to make the case for a great run or rebound, more so though of future out-performance of the us relative to intl, and asia emergings in particular.

chose 3-5 years figuring it will be at least another year, if not longer, to clear out some of the troubles our economy faces...and that us could out-perform above mentioned markets for 2, maybe 3, years following that.

i seriously doubt this article or any comments are going to move the market. no offense to any of the writers; but it is some what ridiculous the number of people accusing others of "talking up their book" in an effort to regain losses (whether long or short).

that being said, etrade did say they were going to double the amount of outstanding shares: caveat emptor.

In regard to Sikorsky and UTX-

Sikorsky does provide a significant portion of the military's rotary-wing aircraft, and the Navy expects to have an all-Sikorsky fleet by 2010; but I think Sikorsky is only about 9% or 10% of UTX's overall revenue.
