  • Microsoft's Xbox One: Too Much Talk - Let's Look At The Numbers [View article]
WHAT? The PS3 had a lead on the Xbox 360. The PS3 came out a full year AFTER the Xbox 360.

"After more than six years of playing catch up, PlayStation 3 sales passed Xbox 360 sales to become the second bestselling home console for the seventh generation. According to VGChartz latest sales data the PlayStation 3 has sold 77,313,472 units to date, while the Xbox 360 has sold 77,311,669 units.

The PlayStation 3 first launched on November 11, 2006, nearly one year after the Xbox 360, which launched on November 22, 2005.

The gap was just over five million units when the PlayStation 3 launched, but it grew to more than eight million units as the PlayStation 3 struggled to take off when it first launched. However, after the first console redesign, price cuts and major software releases the PlayStation 3 started outselling the Xbox 360 on a weekly basis.

In 2010, the PlayStation 3 managed to catch up by 600,000 units and in 2011 by nearly 900,000 units. In 2012, the PlayStation 3 sold 12.73 million units, while the Xbox 360 managed to sell 11.10 million units. In just the first five months of 2013 the PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by one million units.

The Wii, the bestselling home console for the seventh generation, is 22.35 million units ahead of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the PlayStation 3 has caught up by 2.50 million units in just five months."

The PS4 has better hardware at a cheaper price. Also, Microsoft's reputation has taken a significant hit lately due to the features of the Xbox one. I believe the PS4 will take the lead in console sales and maintain the lead.

  • Capstead Mortgage (CMO): Q2 EPS of $0.27 misses by $0.05. (PR[View news story]
From earnings reports: “The second quarter was also notable for an abrupt shift in the market to significantly higher long-term interest rates in large part due to concerns regarding the timing of the Federal Reserve reducing and ultimately ending its bond buying program. While we are not immune to this volatility, pricing for our portfolio of short-duration and well-seasoned ARM securities has held up reasonably well compared to pricing for longer duration ARM or fixed-rate mortgage securities. Consequently, we experienced a relatively modest book value decline through quarter-end of 3.8%, or $0.52 per common share, related to our portfolio net of interest rate hedges and other operational factors."

  • Sony To Microsoft, Game Over? [View article]
The big issue facing the Xbox One now is that it is less powerful than the PS4 yet costs $100 more than the PS4. MSFT also needs to drop the Kinect requirement. MSFT lost a lot of goodwill to many in the gaming community. Only time will tell if they get it back.

  • The Xbox One will cost a hefty $499 when it goes on sale in 21 markets in November, says Microsoft (MSFT -1.1%). Though that price includes a bundled Kinect, it could be tough for some gamers to swallow, given the 360 (no Kinect included) currently goes for $200 (4GB flash) and $300 (250GB hard drive). The early reaction on Twitter isn't favorable. Microsoft is also showing off 13 exclusive launch titles at E3, and says a new Halo title will arrive next year. • More on Apple: OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) is unveiled.  New features include tabbed windows for the Finder app, document tagging, the delivery of iOS push notifications, and improved support for multiple displays. Apple (AAPL +0.9%) also touts big improvements in wake time, CPU efficiency (helps battery life), and memory usage. Also announced: an updated Safari browser featuring better performance/power draw and Twitter integration, and a password-saving service called iCloud Keychain. The apps generally have a more streamlined appearance (no doubt thanks to Jony Ive). (live blog) (webcast[View news story]

    Still waiting on your source???

MSFT just called BS on your $10 fee for used games. I knew it was ridiculous when you came out with this article. You obviously know very little about the gaming market.

"Xbox One will allow used game sales, but activating these games will require a $10 fee. This also applies to when a user may bring a game over to a friend's house, in which case installing the game to the hard-drive will also cost $10."

Media reports state there is no fee.
