Sony Partners with Google to Top Amazon's e-Book Catalog [View article]
Thanks AReader.
Sometimes I allow myself to believe what I want to believe without doing my homework (Although I would never BUY either a Kindle or Sony reader without doing my own research.)
This ties into an earlier comment I made that reminds us all of the sad truth that most of what we read, hear and see is propaganda and advertising.
Like you, I wish there was more rational discourse in all walks of life and that when people find the rational discourse that IS out there they would NOT either ignore it or trash it, as they usually do, OR try to kill the messenger.

It looks as if Sony has the best (physical) product but the Amazon Kindle has the best advertising platform.
Unfortunately, marketing often beats quality of product, as the 'build a perfect mousetrap' proverb teaches us.
Many people tried to convince Hewlett Packard to give away their printers so they could use a very large customer base to sell printer cartridges!
Now Sony seems to be following the strategy of 'giving away' books so they can sell their electronic readers. I hope this strategy allows them to win this War of the Books.
Sony's reader has always been given the highest readability and ease of use ratings but its book list was small, proprietary and expensive. This new development is good news for electronic book readers.
The bottom line is that readers should be able to load and read simple text files and other popular formats that they have created for themselves or borrowed from other people.
A similar war is going on in the mp3 market, of course, but that's another story.
