Amazon planning to deliver products using drones
View news story
Paulo is mistaken, octocopters and other multi-copter drones can handle the wind (I've flown a quad-copter in a breeze). Now, can they handle an 80 mph wind? Probably not, but the notion that a simple breeze will knock them from the sky is a fallacy. They're also not toys but rather complicated pieces of technology.
My major concerns with the idea anchors around liability and airspace utilization. The major technical hurdle will be battery life. They really need a battery revolution to make this thing work. The current lithium polymer technology lacks the necessary energy density to be a real package hauler. That could change, though, and I think that it's otherwise feasible. I'm still not a fan of the idea.
