Which is a Better Short Candidate - Capital One or American Express?

I'm personally selling naked puts on COF at 25 strike. My reasoning is simple. Capital One Financial has a cash cushioning float.


I have sold naked puts on AXP, but I'm leary because I believe that AXP has less capital to protect itself.

Just my opinion and capital at work.

As American Express Goes, So Goes the Economy

I personally I'm short Amex. That may not make me the most popular guy in the room, but common sense is screaming in my face: SHORT. I know that sooner or later, Amex will probably rebound. However, with all this credit mess, and the affluent consumer now hurting.....I truly believe we are in the recession. I wish all the best in their investing endeavors.

AmEx Misses: The Bear Trap Thickens

I think American Express probably represents the responsible class more than the upper class. I knew a girl who made less than 24,000 a year, but was impeccable with paying off her American express card EVERY month. Come to think of it...I should get an Amex card myself. At least I make 27,000 a year.
