The Case Against Ethanol

Ethanol production is hardly a "liberal feel good" project. It is an invention by the same mega farm folks who brought us high fructose corn syrup and its related consequences." Liberal feel good" would encourage conservation, higher density living close to public transportation, packaging reduction, wind and solar energy, and an overall approach that has us doing more with less. Ethanol, as you point out, is a misguided attempt to keep the same failing US transportation system from imploding. You can blame the liberals for lots of folly, buy this joke rests cleanly in the laps of Mr Bush and his ilk.

Who says "gas stations want it and the US consumer overwhelmingly is demanding it." I don't think so. E85 needs costly infrastructure investments so the station owners have little reason to want it. Food prices are going up due to ethanol so consumers actually dislike it. Burning food for fuel is so dumb only this administration could promote it.

The Profitability of Ethanol Production

If i'm not mistaken the farmers used oil in the production of the corn in the first place so what is the real fuel advantage in the long run. Any surplus value could be the product of the continual mining of topsoil that will eventually give out as well. There has to be a better way to collect solar energy then by growing corn.
