Hello Cloud Storage, Goodbye Consumer Hard Disk Drives [View article]
No one is ready for cloud storage. It is just not going to happen for a long time.
yet another dreamy clouds story. A world where connections are perfect and files can never be lost. A world where companies value your photos as you as you. Where storing you personnal collections of porn, stolen dvds and tax records seems like a good idea.
Nope me thinks people will want files stored locally for sometime to come. sure sure , we will all use the net to store some stuff , we already do. But consumers have very little incentive to jump on this band wagon.
Wow you apple kids are plain binded by hate Here we go again....
THE LOW NUMBERS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH APPLE.
whew is that clear enough?
the total number of machines sales are down (note for fanboys apple machines only make up a small % of the total they could be up by 500% and the total sales could still be down).
Really how silly are you guys, dont you get it.
MSFT is losing sales not to apple but to the entire world putting off purchases. Sure apple has sold more then ever, but they are not sales MSFT was expecting , it is the loss of sales to BRIC it the loss of sales to EU it is the high numbers of lower margin XP.
Why MSFT numbers are down is the whole point here, not apple or whether apple is better worse or just a dif seg of the market.
These same punters having been saying MSFT is dead since Yahoo first put up its stock message boards.
every year they have a slight new flavor and every year MSFT makes more cash and sell more stuff.
In order to pretend MSFT is doing poorly the hate fest kids need to repeatedly redefine the terms, the debate, these days they claim MSFT is dead because they dont sell phones, a couple of years ago it was server software, but now that MSFT is doing great in that market they all forget, just like they forgot how XBOX was going to flop or even how java would crush C.
Next we will be hearing how Azure spells doom for MSFT.
Mark just like a lot of other punters talking about MSFT's earnings you have missed the Mark.(how could I resist)
Count the chips dude, the total number of CPUs sold is the telling factor. Sure apple has done well , but the total sales of machines is well down.
MSFT is not so much losing sales to apple (wealthy clients buying a "brand") as it is losing sales to BRIC, losing sales to corps and losing sales totighted belts.
Those who are paying an extra 35% for the apple logo were not planning to buy a MSFT OS , and MSFT already knew that.
Toyota Microsoft Disney JNJ are all hurting. Are you going to tell me that Toyota are losing sales becuase they screwed up? The mouse has lost his way? Or perhaps MSFT woe is merely a reflection of the global **it hitting the fan.

yeah so Chaz invested 160K based on a blog, What a lair or what a butthead. Andy was lucky not right, he got the right number but for all the wrong reasons.
duh , when will you guys ever learn, if you make enough calls some will be right.
Amazon Prime Solidifies the Online Retailer's Dominance [View article]
blah,,,
Just like other "Compete" posts the story leaves out data that does not fit.
Many of the amazon sales are "marketplace" sales , where amazon is taking a small fee and does not have anything to do with prime or free shipping. And as to "new ace in the hole" it is years old.
But hey if you want to show the world, compete cant count then fine with me.
Top 10 Online Video Sites: YouTube Dominates, Hulu on the Rise [View article]
Hulu has more than Comscore is telling us.
First and most importantly , hulu is already producing a revenue stream. The program quality is in place and it is easy for sponsors to tie into. Commercials are marked and timed to let you know they are not going to mess with you, no unexpected interruptions, and the sponsors are pretty one per viewing. It is a winning combo that may very well end up being hybrid all parties have been looking for. Hulu has an upside for broadcast too, if you miss one or two you might catch up there rather than abandon the program altogether.
Downside , perhaps it hurts broadcast television figures somewhat through cannibalization . Also there is a cost for each download unlike broadcast where the cost of sending the signal has little to do with the numbers watching.
With improved targeting, and perhaps user consent, HULU could be placing ads to just the right person at just the right time of the day, or life. HULU could even consider premium quality downloads/bandwidth for users who "opt" into a deep profiling feature. I think this is where online video is going. Youtube is great for fun things, clips , reviews, online learning, and cheap shots, but as of yet it is just a big sink hole sucking up money faster than a coke fiend at a strip club. Think of Hulu as the one you just might bring home to mom, sure the other guy/girl is lots of fun but you are certainly not going to raise kids together.

MSFT could provide the tech, yahoo could provide the freindly face and both could get a slice of search.
The world needs at least two big search companies , goog is already huge and can do pretty much what they want.
