  • Why Oracle Should Leave Europe: A Look at the Numbers [View article]
I am pretty sure Dennis does not really think Oracle should pull out of Europe , he is merely venting his frustration at the EUs continued bullying of US tech companies.

there are almost zero wins for EU tech, they just fail fail fail, Neelie answer is to attack, fine, and litigate US companies into the ground. The fines are providing direct funding for her operations.

The good news is that her term is up, and there is no reason to think we will have another nasty self serving ego maniac like Kroes .

On the otherhand, they are getting used to "taxing" US companies, perhaps the US shoud attack the EUs only jewel, pharmaceuticals, but then SNY is going well and a major holding for me so maybe not.....

  • Why Should Oracle Even Bother with the EU? [View article]
while I disagree that Oracle should walk away from the EU.

Dennis is bang on target, the EU has been throwing its weight around and supporting EU based companies at the expense of non EU companies

Oracle and Sun combined will not dominate, and as such the EU should simply rubber stamp it and move, but that would not make the EU look big and important so instead they attack any company that competes strongly with EU based ones.

The only answer to date is for US companies to employ high amounts of Europeans in the big countries, high value jobs get the support of the gov and thus the EU buggers off.

SO far jobs and taxes (paying them off) is the only to keep the EU off your back......

  • Oracle's Reach for Sun Slowed by European Regulators [View article]
Europe is simply sick of be beaten by American companies in the high tech arena.
And the courts are being used to compete and make careers.

Great if you want to get re-elected , make a fortune in public speaking, or a rich living advising companies on EU competition law..

I sold out my java positions as soon Larry showed up, shame really Java / Sunw was a great slow trade, buy and sell a few times a year with the trends ...

  • Preparing for the Shift to Club Cloud Computing [View article]
When the net showed up everyone declared the client dead. It seems a good 15 years later people are back saying the cloud will replace the OS the Cloud break the upgrade cycle the cloud will free IT.

This is simply not true, the "Cloud" and "web 2.0" are little more than buzz words to push existing concepts to the forefront of the Corp and public minds.

Yes more is going to be served, but it will be a mixed bag , some online some off.
