  • Williams Coal Seam Gas Royalty Trust: Income You Can Believe In [View article]
Reserves are not that important... this from the 2007 annual report (2008 not available):
The Trust will be terminated on December 31, 2012 or earlier if certain events occur.

So you have 3-1/2 years. Looks like reserves will cover that.

Just a quick note, even with the Canadian tax, the yields are high enough for the canroys to sit in an IRA.

  • Using DRIPs for Faster Compounding of Dividends  [View article]
One other little thing. The Canadian goverment withholds 2% of dividends as a non-resident tax. You can, however, claim that tax on your 1040, but NOT if it's held in an IRA/401K/etc. My PGH is in a regular account while PGW is in a 401K. I figured for a 24% dividend, I can afford to loose 2%, especially since the 401K is a Roth.

  • Using DRIPs for Faster Compounding of Dividends  [View article]
It depends. I have a DRIP with PGH that I had to get the certificate (and pay my broker's fee for that) and send it in to computershare to enroll. The benefit is I get the 5% discount.

My DRIP with PWE is still with my broker. It gives me dividend re-investment but NOT the 5% discount.

It depends on if you want the disount or not. And honestly, the initial set-up is a PITA requiring verification for Canadian money laundering.

Beware that CEF has tax consequences if not in a retirement account. I only hold it in my IRA.

  • Ford Joins the 52-Week High List [View article]
So what? The past 52 weeks have not been great for the autos, just look at a 2 or 5 year chart. What I want to know is can Ford reach a 2 year high ($9.20). When it was $7.13, which we are close to, Ford issued its last dividend (0.05).

  • Pratt & Whitney Powers Space Shuttle Discovery [View article]
And just think, those engines only have a total of six more flights left (for the entire shuttle fleet) before the shuttles are retired and find homes in the visitors center at KSC, JSC, and the Air & Space Museum.

    Bully for P&W.

  • 3 Canadian Income Trusts Making the Most of Oil Fields [View article]
"Managements are accumulating reinvestment deductions that can be used to reduce taxes and to facilitate higher than average dividends when the trusts most likely convert to corporations."

PGH converted the US holding trust to a corporation either July 1. PWE, I think, already is under a corporate structure.

  • Beneficiaries and Losers from the Swine Flu Scare [View article]
3M is a joke and they know it. The molecule size of swine flu is smaller than the weave of the bad fitting masks they are selling to the fearful (including on-air doctors who should know better). The mask needed is the type used to prevent TB, the smallest airborne molecule for person-to-person transmission. These are called duck-bills as they look like a duck bill. They need to initially be fitted and tested as they are made in different sizes.
