I started with 5%, but nothing relevant was returned, then I lowered it to 4%. However, Mr. Kovacevich said he was compelled to take the money due to the pending Wachovia acquisition.

Companies are judged on results. The reality is that income investors in WFC (I held WFC at the time) saw a decline in their earnings due to the WFC dividend cut, in return WFC was allowed to close its acquisition. Not all banks chose to take TARP funds they 'didn't want or need.'

Here is a link to Richard Kovacevich's discussion of the situation. All: Don't forget to read the last paragraph, which states in part:

"The above quantitative stock analysis, including the Star rating, is mechanically calculated and is based on historical information. The analysis assumes the stock will perform in the future as it has in the past. This is generally never true."

I find it better to have a set baseline calculation and then question the data that goes into the baseline calculation. In this case, I don't think WAG will be in a position to grow its dividend in the future as fast as it has in the past.

The yield is not a current yield, but a current "year" yield which includes dividends paid at lower levels prior to the current increase.

Best Wishes,
D4L

Mr. Armistead: The $41.33 is what ITW is worth to me at the current dividend and dividend growth rate.

I don't spend much time on the P&L but focus my attention on the cash flow statement and balance sheet (too many "junk" accounting standards have made the P&L earnings questionable).

Generally, when a stock is in the position of ITW, it doesn't become a buy by dropping down to my price, but instead by increasing its dividend and dividend growth rate and raising my price.

Best Wishes,
D4L

Bruce7b: Welcome to the Dividend & Income section. It took me a moment to figure out what you were talking about. Most dividend growth investors do not sell a stock just because it is overvalued - we just don't add to our position. Forever, is our preferred holding period.

I sometime forget other types of investors see this differently and trade more frequently. Here is a link that describes when I sell a stock:

http://bit.ly/z29I5r

I cant speak for other dividend growth investors, but I have found most follow a similar methodology.

Best Wishes,
D4L
