  • How Bad Are Financials? [View article]
Nouriel Roubini answered this question a few days ago. The US Banking system is effectively insolvent.

  • Credit Crunch: How Do We Fix the Solution ? [View article]
The markets are not "free". If they were, we would be well on the way to fixing this mess. It wouldn't be pretty or politcally acceptable but truly free markets work. Government manipulated markets don't.

  • Will There Be an Obama Bounce? [View article]
If it happens it will be just another in a long line of bear bounces. I guess "traders" care about this but I doubt any investors do.

  • The Bull Run Begins This Week [View article]
Prudent Investor hit half the nail on the head. There is another recent article on this site that illustrates an inverted triangle. That depicts to perfection what state the US economy is in. At the wide top is the capacity of the economy which has been overbuilt due to too much easy money sloshing around in the economy for far too long, giving the appearance of a never ending panacia of consumption feeding consumption. At the bottom is the contracting consumer who has been slapped in the head with reality (finally) and is crumbling under the weight (increasing as the consumer is forced to retrench). Their is nothing this economy can do but shrink. This is going to be ugly!

  • The Obama Inauguration Rally Begins [View article]
It will be interesting to watch the tug of war between Obama rally bulls and the earnings disaster bears over the next few weeks.

  • Tech Bellwethers Looking Cheap? [View article]
I don't get it. Seems like everyone is looking in the rear view mirror unaware of the brick wall they're driving into.

  • Bear Market Thoughts: Looks Like Another Downturn [View article]
    Response to Zentrader defense
It makes a person wonder if, in addition to running the funny money machines full tilt, uncle sam has set up skunk-works boiler room trading facility to keep the markets within a desired trading range.

  • Yesterday's Sell-Off Is Not Worrisome [View article]
You forgot to mention one very important fundamental. That of the insolvent US consumer who is responsible for 70% of GDP.

  • The Santa Rally Is Quite Real [View article]
Personally, I can't think of any reason why any one would buy stocks anywhere right now. If we do get a ho ho rally this year I'll be looking for the buying opportunity the next leg down will present once earnings start to roll in.

  • Hope Springs Anew [View article]
"The future, in short, is still as unclear as ever, and perhaps a bit more than usual. Indeed, the recession in the U.S. is still in its early stages."
    Ok, and then...
"Yet the hour is also getting late for favoring excessive amounts of cash and ignoring everything else".
    Ah,but...and then...
"Across-the-board losses — even deep ones — don't automatically spawn bull markets, of course. For all we know, the pain could run clear through 2009 and beyond".
    Oh, phew!.... and then...
"That said, the argument for some modest reallocating / rebalancing allocations from cash to risk is compelling".

Don't you love the way James contradicts himself? I think he is just as confused as the other 75% out there and is looking to us to justify his nibbling. James, you're going to be disappointed (and more confused than ever) as you can see by this and the comments above. We're not in your camp!

  • 'Tsunami Rally' Fast Approaching - Octagon Capital [View article]
The other thing about sunamis is that they are usually one large wave raising the water level for just enough time to strike terror (or giddy bulls to buy in a stock buying sunami) only to disappear as fast as it arrived. Enjoy it while/when it happens cause it ain't gonna last.

  • Obama's Stimulus Package is Morphing Into a Monster [View article]
How 'bout this. Stop all this nonsensical bailing and let these credit bloated hogs (economies) live off their own fat for a while. We can only hope that foreign creditors keep their wallets closed when the mother of all bloated hogs tries to sell 2 trillion worth of tresuries in 2009! They can't realistically believe that there going to get there $ back, can they?
