Despite the Rumors, iPhone is Not for China [View article]
If the screen is touch sensitive, how hard would it be to make an app that turns the screen into a writing tablet? Motorola has a touch sensitive keypad for writing characters, but the iPhone could blow it away. (Plus most phones do use QWERTY input for pinyin)
However, as I am not a Kool-Aid drinker, I do not disagree with your other points. A locked phone is DOA. I believe there could be some great features on the phone, but if Apple ignores the market someone will eat their lunch. Not that that's ever happened before.
