It is rumored that Apple will be launching a tablet, somewhat an oversized iPod with some more stuff in it. The concept is good, but I do not think Apple will hit the right note with its size. The iPhone and the iPod not only are great products, they do everything. I recently got my first ever Apple product, an iPod touch (The iPhones cost more money that I'm willing to invest in any gadget, and there are no subscribtion plans around here in Guyana), originally intended as a gift for my wife, I ended up using it all the time, of course I had to go and get her a new cell phone in compensation afterwards.
If Apple indeed launches a 10" tablet, will be nice, but not a hit, because it is too big to fit in a pocket. You see, the beauty of the iPod/iPhone is that it does almost everything your computer does and it fits anywhere.
Lets take the iPhone, what else does it need other than a bigger screen? More processing power, granted. That does not take up much more space. Better camera capabilities? More memory ? A card slot? Bigger battery ? Still, nothing of all this takes that much more space.
The iTouch, if that's its new name, should not have more than 7" screen, then it would reach the consumer and make a mark as like Portable Play Station should have done years ago. At 10" screen it is just a sofisticated netbook.
Unless Apple really surprises us with something we did not expect and did not know it existed, such as the fantastic sensitivity of its touch screen and WiFi capabilities in such a small device, like I don't know, eye position reading or something like that, the iTouch will be something that we all wish we had, but we would not buy.
I believe Apple is a great company to own and I don't say that iTouch will not be succesful somewhat, but it will not be the revolutionary device that rises the price of its shares another hundred bucks.
