Toyota Joins Ford and Swings to a Surprise Profit [View article]
I don't believe that US government handouts to the auto makers should have included foreign car makers. They should have let Japan bail out Toyota instead of us. Our auto makers would have sold many more cars if our government officials had used a little sense.
The Web Doesn't Belong to the Young After All [View article]
Most of the senior citizens I know don't own a computer and appear angry to me when I mention they obtain one. However, from time to time they want me to look up something for them on my computer. The problem with them is, in my opinion, they are afraid they can't learn to use the computer and don't want to appear to be stupid.
I'm not sure that the average citizen gets anything out of this even if all the dividends and payments were paid back. The money doesn't go into my bank account and from what I see it wouldn't lower my taxes a bit. This bunch we have in office now would just find another crisis to throw money at even if it weren't necessary. The best thing for the taxpayer would be for these companies to go privately owned again. Ditto for health care...they'll come up with compromises in order to pass a bill, any bill, so that they can control the health care industry.
Are We Becoming a Nation of Renters? Investing for the New Housing Dynamic [View article]
I always thought that if you're going to pay monthly on the place where you live you might as well eventually own it. The only flaw I can see in that idea is that people now (that have jobs) move around with their jobs from city to city and it would be unhandy to have to sell your house and buy another one. If you're staying put I still don't see anything wrong with owning something you can afford.

I held FLY for awhile and was very pleased with it but the price got to be quite high compared with what I paid for it so I reluctantly let it go. I plan to buy again if it ever comes back down.
eBay's PayPal X Platform Could Drive an Increase in Transactions [View article]
The problem with ebay is not the payment method, the search engine, the graphics, etc. The problem is they have the small sellers competing with the large sellers on an unlevel playing field. The small sellers are also the buyers, which is a big problem when it comes to sales. The small sellers left when ebay raised fees, postage rates went up, the economy tanked, and they also took the buyers with them when they left. Getting them back is going to require a reversal of ebay policies. Example: lowering all fees, restoring the sellers feedback, and providing a friendlier place for the small sellers to be. Unfortunately, ebay can't do anything about postal rates and the general economy, which may be bad for years to come.
How Much Did 'Cash for Clunkers' Cost? [View article]
I guess if the cash for clunkers thing worked we need to reinstate it along with a cash for shacks deal so people like me can trade in our old cars and houses for new ones. Our heirs can pay them off.
Bailout Nation Mentality: Ford Workers Reject Further Concessions [View article]
Michael J. No apology is necessary; it was very readable and understandable, at least to me. As for the Detroitization of America...It should never have started. Many people would rather get a government handout than have a job. Me, I always felt just a little guilty even drawing unemployment when I was laid off from a job. But the new mentality, aided by the White House and Senate, is to get what you can from the government rather than work for it.
The GM (er, Motors Liquidation) Stock Anomaly [View article]
I think it'd be cool to own one share of a company that once was a great corporate conglomerate just for old time's sake, a collector's item if you will.
CIT Group: Taxpayers' Investment Is Virtually Worthless [View article]
I don't think that any more of these businesses should receive government money just so they can continue to do business as usual. Haven't we learned our lesson yet? All this money spent on CIT and they probably weren't even called on to change their business practices. Any other business beside banking and auto making and the government probably would let you fail, but they let these guys fail several times and we pay for it.
