Must-Know Criteria for Picking Inflation Proof, High Dividend Stocks [View article]
Cliff,I don't know if you are aware that some of your fellow authors there at ALPHA aren't that keen on mlps. Some say they are too leveraged, some think earnings may not keep up this year.I agree with you,I do like the mlps. They are always highly leveraged, but that has been the case for the last 8 years that I have researched and invested in them. However they still seem to raise if not maintain their dividends no matter what the economy does. The price of oil does not determine the rate they charge for using their pipelines.Good luck and thanx for the article.
Anyone taking advice from ALPHA might as well follow Cramer. One week one of their bozos tell you oil will never recover, that they are the same as 90's .com stocks.the next week one tells you MLP'S are the way to go.the next day another ALPHA bozo tells you oil will never recover, stay awy from mlp's..These jackasses havn't a clue.I've beensaving their articles over the last six month and I have concluded they are just guessing or they are trying to swing sentiment in the direction that the author has a position for, long or short.Mostly it is bullshit and a waste of time.Take any advice you get from thses guys with alot of salt.

They keep dropping CT.Some of it must be tied to etfs that are being sold off.Too bad because they are throwing out the good with the bad. It's a little scary, but hang in there. The author's article is right on.Fundamentals havn't changed.I have some 60k in mlps.Mostly I'm still up,but it does get a little scary to watch everything dropping so much everyday.

CT, well done.Unfortunately I bought MOS at 90$.I did buy more today.I agree with you,a .10 miss and they sell off 26$?Does'nt makes sense, but then again what else have the shorters to go after?I wouldn't worry about OKS.I been in since '02 when it was NBP and I have never been sorry I bought it.There aren't many pure natural gas mlps.Just sit back a collect the divis.

Good post,CT.I own OKS and have read nothing that would reflect a drop in price. But then the markets are manipulated and nothing makes much sense anymore.Look at the sell-off in MOS.Are we to believe that farmers will not plant crops next spring?Does anyone believe the world is going to drive that much less to warrant the drop in oil?I doubt it.Smoke up our butts.Somebody is making a fortune on the manipulation. And still Wallstreet wants us to pay for their mistakes. What a great country!

I have been in OKS,EPD,and a few others, for more than five years.Needless to say I am pleased with the performance. As liquidations occur I use the opportunity to buy more shares. At the prices I paid for shares,I am averaging about 11% on my investment.I find it more appealing than treasuries issued by a government so in debt that it will never be able to dig out with more debt to come if the bailout is approved. As the dividends roll in I subtract them from my purchase price per share. At some point I will own these shares for nothing.Yes they do flutuate, but so do bonds, and the bond market confuses and scares the hell out of me.I don't understand why more fixed income investors don't look more closely at MLP's.As the author correctly states, energy and the movement of it through the country will continue to grow thru the years.Good article.

Total return is hardly a concern for MLP investors. Each time the dividend is paid it is subtracted from the buy price. At 7-8% per quarter one only needs hold the units for several quarters and soon they find that total return the poster is talking about.Entry point is still a consideration, but the longer one holds the less total return is a problem. For example my purchase price for EPD is 19$ per share.originally I purchased at 23-24$.EPD has been as high as 32-33$,but if income is the goal, why sell?If one is looking for quick gains and turnover, then these might not be the right place to be.

MLPs provide a great return for those seeking income from their investments. With bond yeilds low, interest rates too low, they seem like the best alternative.I have owned OKS,EPD,NS,and others since '02.They also provide a safe place to put money in a bear market. The author has provide a nice guide to help investors choose which ones might be right for you.
