  • RadioShack flies higher. Catalyst? [View news story]
Somebody bought 20k call options expiring in October; strike price of $1.50 Guess they have their own reasons to be bullish.

  • Milken Institute Panel: The Evolution Of Trading And Its Effect On Individual Investors [View article]
Very true for the individual investor - never been better. All the concern over HFT is misplaced for a lot of us. It doesn't really affect what I do, anyway.

  • GSE reform to gain momentum - or stall - this week [View news story]
“Reforming the mortgage market just doesn’t fit into the pre-election priorities of either party.”

    That says it all.

  • Tesla: The Myth Of Zero Emissions And Why It's A Problem For Chinese Sales [View article]
The author assumes both the Chinese government and consumers who can afford a TSLA actually care whether or not it is beneficial for the overall environment. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Chinese government environmental regulation with or without the impact of a few TSLAs running around. So long as they can tax them, that's all that matters.

And neither would I assume that a rich Chinese guy would refrain from buying a TSLA because it didn't actually make things cleaner. "Is it a status symbol? Is it something not everybody has? Do I have something else to drive if this thing isn't all that practical anyway? Ok, I'll take it!" Come to think of it, that's the way TSLA consumers react in the USA also, with a little environmental pretense thrown in.

  • Buffett: No role for Berkshire in Frannie [View news story]
Buffet is being honest here - but he threw the government a bone by conceding that they have some sort of righteous mission to ensure housing loans stay cheaper than the market demands - they do not and should stay out of it.

  • Why Tesla Will Slowly Lose Credibility With The Market [View article]
Tax subsidies are in place for the US market too, don't forget. What happens if/when those go away? Maybe nothing since the primary market is buyers who probably don't care as much about that. But it says something for the size of the market, which doesn't include the average Prius driver who might want a Tesla, but can't afford one and/or isn't convinced.

  • American Apparel: Get Rich, Or Die Trying [View article]
"Marvin Igelman has been a director of American Apparel since July 1, 2011. He used to be director and Chief Strategy Officer of, Canadian based, Poynt Corporation from February 2010 to June 2011. Poynt Corporation went bankrupt in 2012. After a cursory examination of the biography's of the directors, I'm left with the impression it is possible to field a stronger line-up at a lower price."

That's the understatement of the year - ask former employees of Poynt what they think of him and the rest of the former Poynt "leadership" team. Some of them lost not only their jobs but $$ owed to them.

  • UConn Economist Fred Carstensen: Stocks Overvalued, To Trend Down In 2014 [View article]
Sequestration is to blame? Sooo.... the plan was to let the government continue to fake the funk and pump up a false economy? Amazing what academic tenure can do to an otherwise capable mind.

  • NQ Mobile: Behind Smoke And Mirrors Lies The Truth, Part 1 [View article]
This company is doing a great job of distracting everybody from the other distressing facts about its business - questionable product, inflated user base, ghost offices and no questions about where the sudden infusion of cash came from. It's more than likely a Chinese multi-milionare looking for a way to launder his money. There is still a lawsuit underway against them in Boston as well as Apple pulling their apps from the store.
