High Steel Prices: A Preview of Peak Oil [view article]
I have a small fabricating business, & the cost of steel is frustrating. I mean you work your ass off for 20 years building a quality product ( flatbed equipment trailers, utility trailers, & hydraulic dump trailers made from all steel) at a reasonable price, then wham, the material cost goes up 50% in under 60 days when people's & municipalities' budgets were already running on fumes. Because I own the building I work out of & now only have 1 employee, I can cut overhead to nil & ride this freaking thing out. But what of those who can not do this? ....It's looking ugly, but hopefully the elevator doesn't go clear to the basement before it turns around.
