The Solar Energy Market Has Bottomed [View article]
Davewmart, I always enjoy reading your comments, they are very thoughtful. Lets say you are correct and the solar industry is strongly dependent on government subsidies- What are the implications of that? Might it mean that this industry is at an early stage, and like many early stage, but promising, industries they do attract government subsidies to get the ball rolling? This doesn't mean that the industry won't develop its own legs- in fact I think its a good bet that this industry will develop its own legs. Regardless of whether an individual believes in global warming, or nuclear energy, or the viability of "clean" coal, it is likely that the worlds governments, and many state governments, will escalate the regulations that favor low carbon energy, and that will keep those solar factories rolling. Just because this form of energy may not be anywhere close to cheapest form out there now, this has not prevented money flowing to costly energy technologies in the past. Just look at nuclear power in the US from the 60's to 70's. It sure wasn' t cheap to build out that industry, but it happened, and so will solar. In any case there will be money made, and lost. Of that I'm sure Long Trina Solar, Diamond Offshore, EEO, CNQ
Jim, Any thoughts on lead carbon (PbC) batteries that John Peterson has been writing about here on Seeking Alpha? Seems compelling as far as I can tell. Thanks.
