    While i'm not long volatility, how many times has someone come out and say we're in a new age of prosperity and growth, only for it to come crashing down weeks or months later?

    Just because they're not an underwriting doesn't mean that they did not receive fees. Also, they might have upgraded the stock in the anticipation of being made an underwriting on the bond issuance but AMZN decided to choose the other banks. I'm not saying that all of the banks mentioned willingly did this, but its naive to think that AMZN dangling fees in front of these banks isn't an incentive

    pman - while that may happen, keep in mind that analysts keep lowering their expectations so that a beat on the upside is probably more likely than a disappointment on the downside

  • Apple (AAPL) roundup: 1) In what appears to be an "acqui-hire," Apple has bought Particle, a Web app/marketing consulting startup. Particle has has done iAd-related work. 2) Going into Apple's Oct. 25 FQ4 report, the consensus for iPhone sales is around 26M-27M. 3) Janney now thinks Apple will sell 25.5M iPads in FQ1, including 6M iPad Minis. 4) Apple has received a patent for a wireless technology that appears to be an alternative to NFC, and multiple patents for improving camera image quality. [View news story]
