  • Targa Resources For Supercharged MLP Dividend Growth And No Tax Headaches [View article]
Hinds Howard (@MLPguy) had an excellent column last year on the value of General Partners such as Targa Resources Corp. In fact, he used TRGP as the case study.

    Definitely worth reading:

Targa LP continues to grow distributions at a good clip. (Guidance is 10-12% for 2013) and continues to issue equity aggressively. (Since May 2012, they've issued 13.6 m Units). This suggests remarkably strong continued growth in the TRGP dividend.

  • 10 MLPs With Impressive Dividend Yields [View article]
You can put MLP's into your IRA but you need to be careful with the UBTI issues. You can use "special structure" stocks designed for institutions and IRA's such as KMR for Kinder Morgan, EEQ for Enbridge, and LNCO for Linn Energy. In addition, you can add the owners of the GP's such as TRGP, KMI, ENB, OKE, etc.

  • Buy Kinder Morgan Today For Dividend Increases [View article]
Excellent article and many good comments, too.

Long a boat load of the KMI warrants in taxable account and long a bunch of KMR in my IRA and kids Roth IRAs. Zero issues with Schwab and the fractional shares. The Kinder Morgan entities are my favorite energy play for all the reasons you've articulated.

Also long EEQ and OKE in IRA and VNR, MMP, And PAA in taxable account

  • Master Limited Partnerships And Your K-1 [View article]
One good way to participate in the MLP area is via Kinder Morgan. But, don't do it via KMP - do it via KMI - the company that owns the General Partner and owns the Incentive Distribution Rights for KMP. It issues a 1099. Before the significantly accretive impact of El Paso, KMI projects a 12.5% dividend increase through at least 2015. Another tax effective way to participate here is via KMR which is "pari passu" with KMP except that it doesn't pay cash distributions. It issues additional shares instead.
