  • eBay Showing Sellers the Door? [View article]
I think at one time I was ebay's best "cheerleader". From 1998 to 2005 I spent countless hours teaching people how to use the site. I'd venture to guess that I was among the first in my city to become a seller. It was good for me at the time but like everything else, things move on and progress. Business takes different paths and changes are made ...that is good. But unfortunately for the past year Ebay and I haven't been on the same page. I just hope they don't destroy the entire site. I have a feeling that they are taking this "I don't care about the sellers viewpoint" because they are rapidly trying to expand in the European market. And we all know how that's going for them...downhill very quickly! Europeans don't tolerate as much B.S. as we American's do.

Also, it's great to see Craigslist standing up to the Ebay Giant. Ebay can't control the party with their 25%. It will be interesting in the next few weeks to watch how that shakes out!

I've been an Ebay member since it's inception. One thing is clear...the sellers ARE the buyers and the buyers are also sellers. Most sellers have 2-3 accounts. One for selling, one for buying and one for posting on forums. It's the sellers that are on the site every day. They buy most of their packing supplies, electronics, etc. on ebay. A seller is not a casual user as many of the people who are only registered to buy are. If ebay continues to brow beat their customers (the sellers) they will lose them as buyers as well. Many sellers are opening their own stores, websites, flocking to Amazon etc. This last ebay blunder put many Ebay Powersellers over the edge. The future of ebay will be nothing more than an empty online discount store with nothing but seconds, factory rejects, etc. The core will be long gone. Thank about it. What drove buyers to ebay years ago in the first place? Something that they couldn't find anywhere else but there (Antiques & hard to find items for their collections). Take that away (the small sellers) and people will have no reason to shop on ebay.
