hard to believe the Mint will scrap a profitable monopoly business just because of an inefficient pricing mechanism......why not adopt a pricing mechanism similar to the authorized bullion coin dealers and make easy money like they do. Surely it can't be that hard.
The Gold price should average out slightly above the cost of production, just like any other commodity.....I think NEM just reported, and their cost of production on gold was 480 an ounce.

You need to add in the numbers for the new American Buffalo 24 karat gold coin. I believe that is a more recent offering which investors are preferring over the American Eagle (which is of a lesser purity). That could explain it.
