  • The Bumpy Ride Ahead [View article]
Custer's assesment at Little Big Horn was flawed although the "facts" were there for the finding. He might have chosen differently if he looked at "all his cards"
Captain Smith's (Titanic) assessement was also "flawed" in the fact he put personal greed in front of "the facts"

    . . . . list goes on. . .
My point is that if "all considerations" (which I trust the "experts" (insert list of reputable sources) can be brought to bear on this "battle", that maybe the analysis won't be that flawed and that we have grown as a country.
CNBC/ etc can make the fact a spider crawled across the floor into something to disect and analyze with anyone for hours. . . .its sensationalizim and it attracts viewers/ad revenue. I've always found if you put 100 economists in a room and hash this proposal out that if you were like Ronald Regan (God Bless his soul) you could get a "feel" for what is the right thing to do.

I just remember when Jimmy Carter said to Fidel. . .send us your poor, tired, hungry and "we will give them shelter" and what is sent. . .and the problems it ensued.
This "bailout" is similiar but the "stuff" the US will take in has "some value" and be it over time, it may probably pay back be it may take a long time but I think it, like its predessors, will make money. I like the idea

  • Honda, Owens Corning: 'Pickens Plan' Stocks (Part I) [View article]
I have reread this three times and I can't help but think you are wanting to talk about Owens Corning (OC) and not just Corning(GLW). I may be wrong but when you mention insulation. . .

  • Inflation vs. Interest Rates [View article]
Do you remember "Cold Fusion"? All really descriptive (the engineer) but verbose. Nothing mentioned of how the "real" inflation is "adjusted" by Big Brother to get the results he wants. Please research "real" inflation rates and try again but including the impact of "doctored" numbers on what is soon to be our reality. Some of the "great" verbiage is: "I am not a crook", also "Read my lips. . .no new taxes". . ."I did not have sex with that woman". ."The subprime only accounts for 14 % of the total mortgages and will have no effect". . .You get the idea. Good effort

  • Meet Mr. Market: Jim Cramer [View article]
Throughout history there has always been and will always be these "Mr Market" types. They exist for the "moment" and can change for whatever moment. Some that come to mind are:
    "don't worry. . .its unsinkable" April 15, 1912
" I believe my plan will balance the Federal Budget within 4 years". . .Jimmy Carter
    "I am not a crook"

If you like Cramer, you probably also like Dick Vitale or John Madden. You probably also can spend hours on arguing who is the best short stop in the MLB or Defensive end in the NFL around the water cooler. Mucho Wasteo

The video is great. . . .Somebody needs to piece together the speeches of the presidental candidates and do the same but thats too harsh.

  • How Much Inflation Will We Have to Endure? [View article]
PWE (ex) and others are indeed "Canroys". I was trying to address the comment on TIPS but offering what might be good investments for the previous .

". .Growth of income, in an inflationary environment, is as important as sustainability of income is, in deflationary times.

Income and cash flow is the wholesale beneficiary of deflation. With rising inflation, fixed income becomes a vulnerable asset. Harnessing variable rate income is a tricky proposition. Investors living off a fixed income portfolio can watch their purchasing power decline, while variable rate investing, an actively managed exercise, can produce level results. Different investment vehicles must be considered in a changed, inflationary climate, to preserve a client’s current purchasing power."

I did not separate out the MLP from the Canroys but instead tried to refer the reader (of the very good article) towards a vechicle that would have capital appreciation AND income without going into all the tax implications (other than Roth) between a "Distribution" and a "Return of Capital". I just lumped them all together and I should have realized some cannot see the forest for all of the trees in the way. Mr. Clark does make a lot of sense in his well written article. If you take the time to research the probable total return of the "MLP"/CanRoys for a tax exempt/differed account, I think you will find most would be in excess of 20 %. Lets see, most are energy related/pipeline/elect... power/compression/products, etc. . . .wonder how they might do if Tampons become more expensive?

I think Bill Gross has said that TIPS are not the way to go as they have a negative rate of return. He is a "bond" (James Bond) guy. I recommend MLP's held in an IRA (Preferably Roth)
Yields greater than 10 % are common and if in Roth, would yield another 2.4 % for taxes. They have a potential capital gain as well so the real return could be over 25%. Try Lehmans research or SA for MLP,s. There have been several good SA articles seekingalpha.com/artic.... My personal favorites are PWE, TPP, APL,WPZ,ETP,EPD,LINE,O...

  • Nusbaum: Portfolio for a New Era [View article]
I believe it was Carnegie who said "Its ok to put all your eggs in one basket and just watch that basket". I think the days of buy and hold are gone since the advent of computers and research things like sector rotation and momentum play larger parts in a composite portfolio with hedge funds making a bet. (Oil anyone?)
