    at one time (probably 1945-1952) the u.s government was concerned about on-shore availability of certain critical alloying materials (ferrovanadium, ferromanganese, etc.) and laid in a supply purchased (i was told) from the french government and stockpiled at a u.s army installation @ romulus NY. i'm not sure where that stuff is now.
    it is time to consider doing a similar thing for rare earth metals?

    enrico - PVC pressure pipe can replace copper in localities where building codes permit it. the principal advantage of the pvc is improved labor productivity. some people question the long-term safety/reliability of the pvc under pressure. make sure there isn't any bisphenol-A in the vinyl.
