  • How to Profit From Greenhouse Gas Emission Restrictions and Incentives [View article]
ozone-layer damage is related to chlorofluorocarbons but not to greenhouse gases. the way you have phrased it confuses the issue.

you show greenhouse-gas emissions by quantity in your first chart, but the effectiveness of methane (swamp gas, cowfarts) as a heat trap greatly exceeds that of CO2. a second chart accounting for this factor would be helpful. the relevant question is, what are the kinetics of CH4 destruction in the atmosphere under various conditions.

in order to avoid total disruption, the requirements of the new law (whatever it ends up looking like) will have to be phased in gradually over time.

  • Energy Efficiency = New Era for Electric Utilities [View article]
we are having trouble siting a new line in northern VA due to citizen and intervenor opposition.

the basis of the opposition is that the utility company (D) has not done enough to encourage conservation, and the power to be transmitted comes from old polluting plants in OH, IN, KY, MI/

'solar panel farms in corporate parking lots'/

well if you go to florida you will see that the executives get reserved spaces with a roof over each. this helps make your paint & vinyl upholstery last longer. the plebians get to sit out in the direct sun. just put solar panels on the roofs that already exist. better yet give everybody a solar roof.

"excess electric power is always being wasted"

    not so.

fossil-fueled installations are built with load-following capability. if the dispatcher wants more juice in his lines, he can ramp up output from one or more of his units according to 'lowest-cost dispatch' or least-emissions dispatch' principles.

nukes don't like to be cycled this way, they last longer if base-loaded. that's why we have pumped storage as a load-leveling device.
