other people also built steam-powered automobiles, doble made an excellent product. one of my friends was driving his doble steamer daily to work in 1970, he worked for USDOT here in wash dc, they had a steam-bus project underway. in germany, DKW (= dampfkraftwagen) also built them.
in 1974 there was interest in external combustion engines, both stirling cycle and steam. the williams company had a project to make a high-pressure steam piston engine but they had trouble with cylinder lubrication, the high-temperature steam steam-distilled the oil off of the walls. if they had had a physical chemist on their staff they would have understood the problem.

    MeOH works great @ indianapolis.
be careful about using methanol (it's hygroscopic) in your family car, water-bottoming occurs in fuel tanks when gasoline/MeOH fuel is stored in damp weather.

i have been a chemist for the last 60 yrs & never knew C2H5OH was corrosive. of course everybody knows water is corrosive to iron when air or oxygen is present. in your house do you have copper pipe or plastic pipe ?

  • Is the Ethanol Mandate Likely to be Repealed? [View article]
distillation energy (steam) can be provided from coal-fired boilers, you don't have to use NG. using back-pressure turbines (cogeneration), you can produce electric power too & use the same steam twice,

ADM co-fires coal & chopped-up scrap rubber tires in circulating fluidized-bed boilers using limestone sorbent to capture sulfur emissions.

yes admit brazilian EtOH duty free.

corn-to-ethanol is a method of converting natural gas to motor fuel since NG is used to make hydrogen for fertilizer manufacture. you can do the same thing using NG-to-MeOH and Mobil's MeOH-to-high octane gasoline process,

in the 1920's henry ford's dream was to have every farm, including trucks & cars, operating on locally produced corn ethanol. he hated the oil plutocrats. have we come full circle?
