  • How Natural Gas and Oil Prices Are Linked [View article]
A barrel of oil has a heating value of of about 6 million BTU. At $100 per barrel this is equal to $16.67 per million BTU. Thus, on a thermal linkage, the price of natural gas would be $16.67 per million BTU or per 1000 cubic feet(heating value of NT is about 1000 BTU/cubic foot).

  • Chesapeake Energy Called the Market's Bluff [View article]
The correct price of NG is $10 per thousand cu. ft. not billion cu. ft. One thousand cu. ft. (Mcf) has a heating value of one million Btu so another way to quote the price is $10 per million Btu.

  • What Can the Saudis Do to Bring Down Oil Prices? [View article]
The Saudis think that we are saving our offshore and ANWR oil while their oil is being depleted. So, the king will say: you Americans better start to produce your own oil because we want to save ours for the future too; we're not dumb!!!

  • Speculators Continue to Drive Oil Higher at Risk of Global Recession [View article]
ANWR contains 11 billion barrels of crude oil and some people are saying that it would have a negligible effect on dropping the world price of crude. That might be true, but if produced it would generate over one trillion dollars in revenue for us. I'd say that's significant because it would buoy up the dollar.

  • Can Offshore Drilling Bring Down Gas Prices? [View article]
700 million barrels at a net-back of $100 per barrel results in $70 billion. I'd say let's do it because it is better to benefit domestic Oil Co shareholders than OPEC. Our congressmen don't understand this: the concept of making money instead of spending it.

  • Electric Cars for 2010: Shift from Foreign Oil to Riding on Local Renewable Energy [View article]
Plug-in electric cars will reduce but not eliminate CO2 emisions. 50% of our electric power is generated by coal fire power plants, 10% by nuclear and the rest mainly by natural gas along with some hydro, solar, wind etc. Power plants, especially combined cycle, are generally more efficient than internal combustion engines by about a factor of 2. So, there would be a reduction in CO2 even if all the power came from coal fired power plants.

  • Want Lower Gas Prices? OK, Let's Increase Supply [View article]
How about nuclear power for electrolysis of H2O to make H2 for fuelcell cars. No oil needed and environmentally wonderful.

Another way is to gasify coal to make methanol and then convert methanol to gasoline using the Mobil process. Still have CO2 emissions but reduced dependence on oil.
