      CNBC's Gasparino Problem
I am generally tired of CNBC because there is so much screaming, interrupting, glib sarcasm. This is independent of politics. When they have someone with something thoughtful to say, whether I agree with it or not, I want to hear it. But they argue and cut off.
Bloomberg is becoming more attractive, but their 3 line ticker is very hard to read.
Interesting the volume of comments on this article, with fewer on more substantive issues. Easier to yell and to blame, than to think. Me included I guess.

Re SYK - they are down less than most other stocks in past months.
I wonder if there is pressure that they will have to lower prices because of health care expense concerns, no matter who wins the election.

A First Look At How the SEC's Rules Are Working
I agree not naked short, but regular short important part of market. Also seems good for a cooling off period.
I watched one company I knew a lot about a couple years ago almost go out of business because of greatly exaggerated rumors by shorts. I was in shock they could do it, and being small didn't take that much. It had very little to do with the balance sheet.

Norfolk Southern's Pricing Power Drives Profits
Enjoying listening to the mournful whistle of NSC every evening. Feels like a friend as I enjoy watching the price rise. I used to watch the cars pass when stopped at the RR crossing, a couple years ago, and noticed how much corn syrup, scrap and coal they were shipping, and also that they had many new looking cars. Decided probably had good future, and decided to invest.
Wonder how long before we see more passenger trains.

Time for Investors to Pick Up the Garbage Disposal Companies
Perhaps innovative people can come with an alternative collection vehicle.
Some of the things that buses are experimenting with? Anyone know anything about this? Pickens CLNE comes to mind.
But these companies that pick up garbage need to be alert to people recycling more and more. I for instance need pick-up only every other week now. And the recycling bins are full with cars waiting in line.

      Investing in Dividend Paying Companies
And you could pay attention, and sell if the future didn't look good for the company. You could also dividend reinvest in the company, or invest the dividends elsewhere. Your return would certainly be better.
When times are rough, like now, for the most part I hold the dividend payers, and sell those that don't. The ones bought for fast growth are usually not growing and the more stolid ones lose less, and they pay the dividend while you wait for better times.

      Dividend Yields Soar
      To Doc Mike
I too am long SSW, as well as several other shippers. I have been concerned about the future of container ships, and am unimpressed with the performance for months. Holding because of the 8%.
I had heard that more US companies are doing less outsourcing. Could this be part of the container ships problem.
Sorry to post this here, but didn't know how else to contact Doc Mike.

The 'Problem' With Solar Companies is Not Really a Problem
I thought we learned back in the last "crash" not to pay so much attention to analysts. They are creeping back. Now with more emphasis on the firm and less on the individual barker.
And they still do investment banking with many the rate.
Unfortunately they affect short term prices quite a bit, sometimes.

      Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News
Citi's plan is a big part of what led to the 2000-2002 problem, rating high who they serve. I did learn to ignore any analyst recommendation from this type of institution, and quit using Morgan Stanley as a brokerage.
Wish I had followed the advice of an investing buddy who said he didn't buy what he didn't understand.

Rising Oil and the Future of Globalization: Implications for Transport Stocks
I have been concerned about this long term, and long term may arrive sooner than I thought. Agree it is much worse for container than dry bulk. Had been thinking of selling my Seaspan, and just take the small loss, which is about 0 with dividends, and either keep in cash or convert to DRYS. Long DSX and EGLE, TNP and SFL also. I wonder about TRN and its barges -- might be more market there.
