  • Apples And Oranges - Is There Anything Beyond The iPhone/iPad Story? [View article]
I appreciate your effort at broadly analyzing apple's stock price movement in an industry-focused context. There is significant merit to the perspective that industry informs changes in profitability of specific companies/brands over time. One point you could have elaborated on would be Apple's intensive focus on intellectual property rights. It seems possible to make a strong case that Apple has attempted to replicate in the Tech industry the intellectual property "moat" (Warren Buffett's term) that sustains big pharma's margins/profitability over time. Thank you beginning the conversation. Briefly, I do take issue with your comparison of apple's share price in the 150 range to other tech companies in that range unless this is also accompanied by a "very broadly speaking" caveat. The stock prices of different companies are certainly not universally comparable in terms of dollars per share. I note this in spite of agreeing with your suggestion that apple has continued to innovate beyond several potential peak/drop-off points. It's just that comparing stocks on a price per share basis alone (not factoring in the affect of share issuance numbers on share prices) risks being fallacious. What apple needs in order to hit it's next home-run is an IPanel TV that seemlessly integrates with all of its existing devices, looks great, and connects to an ecosystem of stations/internet/comm... networks, clearly setting itself apart from all other panel tv's while sporting the kind of margins Apple-fever currently enables. The Apple brand has a coolness and excitement factor that is unique right now (resounding "Duh" is heard from the peanut gallery, I know;). The company has successfully parlayed this from the IPod to the IPhone to the IPad. If they do not produce a new hit product in the medium-term then Ed's thesis will almost certainly result. Thanks for your article, Ed.

  • Why Apple's Days Of Sandbagging Estimates Are Ending [View article]
I, for one, enjoyed the article thanks to it's focus on understanding both attempts at prediction through fundamental analysis of AAPL by analysts/investors as well as subsequent investor behavior. The article could, perhaps, have benefited from a further edit and spell check, but reading it was well worth my time. Thank you to "The Independent Investor" for sharing their perspective (and timely earnings prediction call) in light of the recent run-up in share price.
