Rick Santelli Speaks for the Silent Majority [View article]
Rick Santelli is delightful: smart as a whip, always upbeat, has the demeanor of a very successful carnival barker, & always speaks the truth. Notwithstanding all the "crap" many of the dissenters are herein attempting to pile upon him (from use of language, to trading, etc.& ad nauseam), Rick has been and will continue to be a very "bright light" among a sea of very dim bulbs. Additionally, I am certain that he will weather these slings and arrows quite well & without any malice toward any of his detractors - in fact, he most often just deflects this kind of stuff with a smile! Godspeed Rick... I, for one, am absolutely delighted that you are on the scene!
This is the 3rd time this utterly useless listing has caught my eye. VE only demonstrates an ineptness for its supposed objectives by cloaking everything in gobbledygook. This is, in it's simplest terms, just a pile of crap!
Were Mr. Geithner to show up with a neat looking collie in tow, a smile on his face, and a plan in his hand - he might do a great service to himself, his country and, this financial mess.

Had you been paying closer attention, you might realize that Kudlow is a very staunch supporter of Rick Santelli. So, I guess that makes at least 3 of us (you, me & Kudlow), that regard Rick as our favorite!

Fisking Scientific American on Peak Oil [View article]
In March of 1978, Scientific American published an article by Andrew R. Flower entitled "World Oil Production" in which the author opined that there was only about 15 years left in which to find alternative means, etc. etc. In the same issue there is an article about the "electronic" telephone that would remember numbers, take messages, compute, and, talk. Oh yeah, on the page following page 29 - there is an ad for Hertz rent-a-car with the sub-title "The Superstar in rent-a-car" featuring a full 2/3 page photo of some guy named O.J. Simpson running at full tilt in a 3-piece business suit with briefcase and trench coat in his right hand. only his left shoe is visible in the photo... which appears to be a slip on type with a metal decorative buckle. Yes indeed! Time does change things.
Measuring markets vis-a-vis any presidents first 100 days is silliness at best. Phrenology might be a better indicator were we, for example, using each president's head & hat size to measure market performance - and, while we are here, why not include an indicator for global warming (whoops! sorry, I meant climate change).
Mr. DeLong speaks to this issue in a most authoritative manner. Should there be a move toward setting up his "Maggie Sue", may we then expect that it will be managed with the same high levels of integrity, due diligence and, professionalism enjoyed at "Fannie Mae" & "Freddie Mac"? If so, what does Mr. DeLong think the "vig" (as in vigorish) will be in terms of payouts to Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, & other esteemed members of the U.S. Congress? Who would head up this "Maggie Sue"? Mr. Raines & Ms. Gorelik might be available.
Would Partnership Be a Bailout for Chrysler or a Bonus for Fiat [View article]
Diane, For 0.00277% ? I don't think so. The "deal" is not worth a pitcher of warm spit. Neither Fiat nor Chrysler are viable companies by any stretch of the imagination. Moreover, the concept that Fiat has the ability to "save" Chrysler is mildly amusing - well... maybe just amusing.
Connecticut's Method of Eliminating Unemployment [View article]
The state of CT has been driving employers out of state so consistently over the last fifty plus years that the only burgeoning business left would likely be a livery or limousine service! (outbound) Forget about "offshore", the number of companies that simply "packed up" & headed to other more attractive states, because of; taxes, labor availability, "climate"(in both the meteorological & economic/political sense) - are simply too numerous to mention. None of the legislators, politicians, members of executive or, judicial branches of the state goverment "get it". The state goverment in CT has been "broken" for a very long time, irrespective of political party, and is not capable of correcting its massive mindset that every tax, fee, licensing, tariff, fine, penalty, union rule, non-union rule, etc. is "golden" & immutable.
Beyond Trading, In your article, you state that the device "...replace a surgeons hand". A better way to state this would be to use the word ...augment or, enhance the surgeon's hands. The surgeon is in no way "replaced". As to my trading in this stock, I have bought & sold it a dozen times since 2004. My first trade was about $24.50, and my statement to the effect of having a "long" position in this stock since 2004 was intended to summarize, not offer you a conclusion about my trading habits. In looking back on SA, I could not find any references regarding your coverage of this stock prior to last year... hence my comment that you were a "johnny come lately". I'm indeed sorry if I offended you... but, nonetheless, you do seem to be a trifle oversensitive and, as well, the manner in which you are "crowing" about ISRG might give one the idea that you were the only people on the planet that had discovered this particular stock.
Bernanke Likely to Be Ousted by Obama in Favor of Summers [View article]
I say to hell with Bernanke, Summers, Volcker and, even the great clarinet player Greenspan. Let's stop messing around with this position and go right to the edge of doom with a really great appointment - let's say Alistair Darling, or perhaps Al Franken. What about Barney Frank? None of these guys are doing anything currently, are they?
