Un Canadien errant, on dormirait(surprise)is a bit over the top! While we can agree with many of your comments regarding the essential worth of reporters - where, pray tell, do you make this enormous "leap" to conclude that "We're trying to shine a light on the financial world and its shadow banking systems, whie the eyes and ears of our local reporters are shuttered. The unintended consequences could be fierce." The author is reporting on the "print" editions and clearly mentions that the papers in question may end up in digital editions. Have you ever heard of IBD, WSJ, FT? - what have you read of late that portends to the shining of light in local rags with a byline by a local reporter?
Wow! I enjoyed reading every post on this subject! I cancelled our subscription to an old and revered paper - just could not put up with the drivel. We gain local ads & news from two complimentary papers delivered once a week or so. IBD is the only paper I have read daily for several years, but I may cancel my subscription to that as well - too costly. We are all "barraged" daily with so much stuff - print, tv, inet, radio, email... more media than ever...with less content.
